Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21 LSB
As we see the world become more corrupt and people exhibit even more evil behavior, you can be assured that those of us who strive for righteousness and do our best to lead a life pleasing to the Lord will suffer. We won’t fit in where we used to fit in. We won’t be able to associate with all the people with whom we used to associate. This will bring about changes in our lives.
We must be careful, however, not to be fearsome or troubled over this. We must press on and continue to fight the good fight. We must not allow ourselves to become entangled in the chaos that surrounds us. We must stay focused on our Lord and Savior.
Jesus said in John 16:33 I have told you these things that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble, but be courageous, I have overcome the world. Jesus has overcome the world, but how do we overcome the world? Well, I’m glad you asked because His word tells us how to do this.
We must remain strong in the Lord. We must not be overcome by our emotions. The devil can use our emotions to cause us to sin.
We must stand strong in this corrupt world. Fortunately, we don’t stand alone. We are told in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. God will give us the strength needed. When we are weak, He is strong. His power is perfected in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Isaiah 40:31 tells us those whose hope is in the Lord will gain new power; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not get tired; they will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Do not fear for I am with you; do not look anxiously about you, for I am your God. I will make you mighty, surely I will help you; surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
God never commands us to be strong in our own strength. He wants us to rely solely on Him. He wants us to trust in Him. He wants us to be faithful not fearful.
If you are overwhelmed by the evil in this world, focus on Him. Trust in Him. He will bring you through any situation He places you in. Allow your faith in Him to overcome your fear.
Romans 8:28 tells us God works all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. If you love the Lord with all your heart and you’re living your life in the way He has called us to live, and you are doing what He has called you to do, you have no reason to fear. Even in your troubles, God is working all things out for your good.
In Romans 8:37 it says, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” God calls us to overcome the troubles of this world by relying on Him and trusting in Him.
Don’t allow yourself to focus on the troubles of the past and present but focus on Him and the future with Him. In Revelation 3:5 it says, “He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments, and I will never erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My father and before his angels.” We must be overcomers.
Paul wrote in Romans 8:18, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
God has good plans for us, but we will have to endure suffering here on earth. Don’t let it get you down. Trust in Him, hold on to His righteous right hand and follow His commands. He won’t let you down. He will lift you up and help you to overcome.
Have a great day!
