How This Dream Ends

The revelation of Jesus Christ that God gave Him to show His slaves what must quickly take place. He sent it and signified it through His angel to His slave John, who testified to God’s word and to the testimony about Jesus Christ, in all he saw. The one who reads this is blessed, and those who hear the words of this prophecy and keep what is written in it are blessed, because the time is near!     Revelation 1:1-3 HCSB

I have always found dreams to be a fascinating part of the human experience. I have read that dreams are subconscious thoughts that enter our minds during the day and come into our dreams when we go to sleep. It has been said that when we dream, we are at a higher level of consciousness.

All kinds of books and websites claim they can interpret your dreams. In the Bible, Daniel and Joseph were given the ability to interpret dreams. Both wisely let others know that it was God who did the interpreting and shared the information with them.

God has used dreams throughout the Bible to warn people of various things or to let them know what was coming in their future. He has given dreams and visions to prophets.

In Deuteronomy 13:1-3 the Israelites were warned, “If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder and the sign or wonder he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods; which you have not known, and let us serve them;’ You shall not listen to that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the LORD your God is testing you, to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

I’m not crazy about the type of dream that wakes you up and when you fall back asleep you just pick up where you left off. It’s like you can’t get out of that dream. I awaken feeling exhausted as if I had not slept at all.

Today we may face all types of dreams or even nightmares. Some may be pleasant; some may be weird while others are just downright scary.

Often my dreams end abruptly leaving me to wonder how they would end.

Our life can sometimes be a dream and sometimes a nightmare. I learned, however, that when I committed my life to Christ, He walks with me through the nightmares and brings me safely through. He also helps my life to be more of a dream in Him. Even the scary times are not as bad knowing He is there for me.

Our Scripture passage is the first three verses of Revelation. This book used to scare me until our former pastor did a study on it. Once he explained it, I realized that Revelation is not scary for us Christians.

For Christians, it’s a dream come true. We wind up in this place with God and Jesus and those loved ones who are Christians who have gone before us. We live forever where the streets are paved in gold, walls are decorated in precious gemstones, and gates are made of pearl. The place is illuminated by God’s glory (Revelation 21:18-23. There will be no profanity, no evil, no lying, but only those written in the Lamb’s book of life (Revelation 21:27). There will be no more tears and no more death (Revelation 21:4).

Those who reject Christ may be living the dream here on earth, but they are headed for an eternal nightmare. We are told in Revelation 20:19 anyone not found written in the Book of Life, meaning they never accepted Christ, will be thrown into the lake of fire.

Your life may seem like one big nightmare here on earth but know if you trust in Jesus, He will be glad to walk through the flood and the fire with you and bring you safely through it.

Or you may be having the life of your dreams here on earth but rejecting Christ and knowing that your nightmare awaits in eternity.

The time to choose is now. The book of Revelation tells us how this dream ends. It’s beautiful for those who have accepted Christ, but not so good for those who reject Him. Trust in Him today before it’s too late.

Have a great day!
