Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.” John 14:6-7 NIV
If you are planning a vacation chances are you want to go some place that is either very relaxing or fun filled with lots of fun activities. There probably aren’t many of us that would plan to go to a barren wasteland miles from civilization to sleep in a tent for our vacation. I am a bit of a spoiled brat when it comes to vacationing. If I am going to leave the comforts of my home and pay for a place to stay then it must be at least as comfortable as my home is and preferably even more so. So my plan for eternity is to spend it in heaven. I am working hard to be sure that hell is not an option for me. Have you ever heard the saying that “if you fail to plan then you plan to fail”? I am making plans for my eternal future.
I am amazed by the number of people on the planet that seem oblivious to the fact that someday we are all gonna die. These people live their lives as if there is no God, no devil, no heaven and no hell. Sometimes, I watch them in amazement and I wonder, do they think they have plenty of time to decide where they are going to spend eternity? Have they convinced themselves that there is no hell? Have they convinced themselves that because they are good people then they automatically have a ticket to heaven? Have they just bought into so many lies that they believe that they do not have to have a good solid relationship with Jesus Christ to spend an eternity in heaven?
Not one person on this planet knows whether they will spend another minute on this earth or another 60 years. Only God knows our appointed time to die or if we will be called up in the rapture (that’s a whole other blog). But if you are taking the time to read this, I want you to know that the Bible tells us very clearly that there is a heaven and there is a hell. The Bible is also very clear on the fact that we have a choice to make. We can plan to spend eternity in hell or we can plan to spend eternity in heaven.
You need to know that God never intended for anyone to go to hell. When he created the earth, he put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and this would have meant that we all lived in a heaven on earth. However, their sin had them removed from the Garden of Eden and made it necessary for God to send his son, Jesus Christ to earth to die a horrible and humiliating death on a cross so that we could be saved from our sin. Now this scripture passage tells us that the only way to the Father in Heaven is through Jesus Christ. So if you are planning for your eternal destiny, then you need to decide where you want to spend eternity. The choice seems pretty easy. You only have one of two places to choose from. I don’t like heat so I don’t want to go to hell, but the heat isn’t the worst thing. The eternal separation from God is the worst thing about hell. You see here God is just one prayer away. We can call out to God. We can choose to live a life close to God in close relationship with his son Jesus Christ.
You see sometimes when we choose a vacation route it is full of twists and turns to get us to our final destination. Now our lives are full of twists and turns, but if we keep our relationship with Jesus on that straight and narrow path then the curves that life throws us will be much easier to handle.
Whether you realize it or not, you are already on your way to your eternal destiny. Each breath we take brings us one step closer to eternity. You are already traveling. Now perhaps you have taken some wrong turns and have found yourself on the pathway to hell. If that is the case, then right now, turn around. Pray the sinners prayer. Confess your sin, repent and ask Jesus to come into your heart. By doing so, you will be headed to heaven for your final destination.
That’s simple enough but remember if you are on the road to hell and turn around, the devil will begin trying to entice you back. This is where the good, solid relationship with Jesus Christ comes into play. You will need to draw from Jesus’ strength in order to resist the devil. The pathway to heaven isn’t easy, but the final destination is well worth it.
I pray for you today that you are well on your way to your heavenly home. If that is not the case, then I strongly encourage you to turn around. It is not too late.
If you are well on your way to heaven, then I hope that you are bringing as many people along with you as you can. Once we establish a secure relationship with Jesus Christ, it is our job to bring others to Him. So if you are not saved, then think about where you are headed and if you really want to spend eternity there. If you are saved and know you are headed to heaven, then think about those around you that may need to turn around and join you in your journey. Encourage them to come along. Show them the light, let them see Jesus Christ through you.
Have a great day!
