His Craftsmanship

For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well. My bones were not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began.
Psalm 139:13-16 HCSB

About 75 or 80 years ago, my maternal grandfather built a table. This table sat in my grandparent’s living room for many years. My mother inherited this table when her parents passed away and now it sits in my house. For many years I used it to display my collectibles. But now it is in my living room and is being used as a tv stand. My grandfather was a farmer, but he was also skilled in building. I can recall several things he had built that was in their home. Craftsmen build things for a particular purpose. I remember the table in my grandmother’s living room. I believe the bottom shelf stored some books and the top held a lamp and a couple of other things.

God created each and every one of us for a purpose. He knit us together in our mother’s womb. He gave us DNA from our parents.

I used to see a small girl pictured with a saying underneath it which read, “I know I’m special because God didn’t make any junk.” My friend if you are feeling down on yourself, you need to understand that you are remarkably and wonderfully made. Don’t let the images of the beach bodies bring you down. Don’t let the opinions or the harsh words or actions of others bring you down. Trust in the God who made you.

But most importantly discover His purpose for you. James 4:8 tells us to draw near to God and He will draw near to us. We must do this to discover His purpose for us. In our Sunday School lessons we just finished studying Joseph and are embarking on the study of Moses. These were two men that God definitely had a purpose for when they were created in their mother’s womb. Joseph was born of Israel and Rachel to save many people, including God’s chosen people, from the great famine. Moses was created to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and to the Promised Land.

Joshua was created to be a leader that would actually bring the people into the Promised Land. David was created to kill Goliath and be a great warrior and king. I could go all throughout the Bible, but you get the idea. And of course, Jesus came to save us all.

I don’t know what your purpose on this planet is, but I do know that it is to be in fellowship with God. We are to live in a right relationship with God. No good comes from us doing otherwise. When we are in a right relationship with God, you can be assured that He will guide you and help you to understand the purpose He has set aside for your life.

In Jeremiah 1:5, God tells Jeremiah, “I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” All throughout the Bible we see that God has a plan for each person’s life. Jonah didn’t care for the plan God had for him and attempted to run away in Jonah chapter 1. I remember my first assignment God called me for when I surrendered to Him. It was working with small children. I had no desire to do that, but God would not let me say no. I loved my time teaching little ones and found it to be so rewarding.

My friend, God has a plan for you. I can assure you that it is not to decorate the church pew once a week or once or twice a month. For years I thought that was God’s plan for me. But He had so much more for me to do. He gives us the choice to do it our way or His way. It took me many years to learn that His way is so much better. His way brings so much peace and joy into my life.

We are His craftsmanship and He made us for a purpose. If you want true peace and joy in your life surrender to Him and do it His way. I assure you it is a decision you will never regret.

Have a great day!
