He’s Waiting

The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.  2 Peter 3:9

Well, just when we think we’ve seen it all or it couldn’t possibly get any worse, God shows us that we haven’t and it can. When you think that this sin-filled world can’t sink any lower into moral degradation, guess what?

I don’t watch the news, but yesterday a friend told me that Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York spoke of the declining death rate in New York and said that it was not God or prayer or religion, but that “we” meaning the people of New York did this. All you can say is “Wow!”  What scares me the most is that those in this country with power and control seem to have a hard time acknowledging God’s power and control, so, He waits.

Us Christians keep thinking that the end must be near, but there are so many that need Him. There are so many that need to repent, so He waits.

He waits for us to pull our heads out of the sand or wherever else we may have stuffed them. He waits for us to come to our senses.  He waits because He does not want anyone to perish. He wants us all to believe in Him, to accept Christ as our savior, and to repent.

Have you ever had someone betray you or wrong you in some way that it hurt you deeply? I’m sure you have. Have you ever had someone that you cared about so deeply do that and you really wanted nothing more than to forgive them and make things right again? Maybe you forgave them in your heart, but you were still hoping for an apology. After years, you may still be hoping that they would just come to you and tell you that they are sorry for hurting you. You want them to acknowledge the heartache and pain that they have caused you. You want to know that they care enough about you to be troubled by their actions. You love them and you have forgiven them, so you wait. Imagine the pain and hurt that we have caused God. We sin against Him and betray Him and don’t give it a second thought.

God loves us and sent His son so that we may be forgiven, but we must ask for that forgiveness. 1 John 1:8 tells us that if we say we have no sin, then we are deceiving ourselves. But verse 9 tells us that if we will only confess our sins, He is righteous and faithful to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Verse 10 goes on to say that if we say we have no sin then we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. The scary thing today is that we go about doing things that are clearly violate God’s biblical commands and we are not sorry. We think that we have done nothing wrong.

I read an article the other day in the American Family Association Journal that the United Methodist Church is meeting to discuss splitting because the more “conservative” members oppose LBGTQ marriages and ministers in the church while the “other” side supports this. Are you kidding me? I mean I thought things were bad when Target allowed men into the women’s restroom, but now the United Methodist church is supporting gay ministers and allowing same sex marriages within the church. I was a member of a United Methodist church for 20 years. I left and returned to my Baptist roots about 12 years ago. Our conservative pastor told us way back then that the church was heading in this direction. He was right.

Eight years ago Billy Graham, in a letter, wondered whether America could be facing a punishment like Sodom and Gomorrah? His wife, Ruth Graham, died in 2007 and had said that, “If God didn’t punish America, He would have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.” When will we wake up and see what’s going on not only in America, but around the world? When will our political leaders and scientist give this over to God and ask for His help? But most importantly, when will we humble ourselves, get down on our knees, seek Him with all our heart, turn from our evil ways and ask Him to heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14)? There is a website called Unite 714. It calls on us to unite and pray for God to heal our land from the coronavirus and for a spiritual awakening.

We can’t control what our leaders do, we can’t control the foolish things they think or say, but we can control what we do. We can band together as Christians and humble ourselves and repent. We can pray for God’s healing and pray for Him to open the eyes and ears of those who just don’t get it. We can ask Him to soften hardened hearts. We can turn to Him and seek Him with our whole heart. He’s waiting.

Have a great day!
