He’s Got Good Plans for You

For I know the plans I have for you” – this is the LORD’s declaration – “plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. You will call to me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.  Jeremiah 29:11-13  CSB

Some people are excellent planners. They have an eye for detail and they plan things out very well. Me, not so much. I am a “fly by the seat of my pants” girl most of the time. My partner at work used to cringe when I would say things, like, “No problem, I’m just going to wing it.”  God always blessed me with partners that were really good planners. Amazing how that works out isn’t it?

Now I have worked with some wonderfully organized planners, and I greatly appreciated their organizational skills, but they have nothing on God. You see God is the ultimate planner. I mean, let’s face it, he put this whole universe together in six days and there were a lot of details to be worked out here. Nobody can out plan God, right? So what the heck do we think we are doing when we fly off into something without Him?

I have ventured off into a business without Him, not a good idea. I have ventured off into relationships without Him, never a good idea. I have made some big messes because of my plans. I have planned things out and thought that they would work well, only to find that they didn’t work at all. But anytime I have followed God’s plans for my life, things have gone exceptionally well. Imagine that. I can fully understand why people say, “Man plans, God laughs”.

You see, our scripture passage tells us that God has good plans for us. Now if you have read my blogs, you know that I refer to this scripture passage often. I do this because it took me a while to realize that He has good plans for me. Even when it looks as though things are not going my way, God is using his majesty and power and working things out for my good (Romans 8:28). I have learned to trust in His plans. His timing is another thing we must trust, but that’s a whole other blog for another day.

God doesn’t want disaster for our lives, He wants good for us. Now, I don’t know about you, but when I failed to live according to God’s plans, my life was a train wreck. But as soon as I got on board and began putting God first and doing my best to follow the plans He laid out for me, things just started working out.

Now we all have a tendency to press the panic button when we see disaster on the horizon, but have no fear my friend. If you are living out God’s plan for your life, it will work out well for you. Psalm 91:7 tells us that though a thousand may fall at our side and ten thousand at our right hand, it shall not approach us. In verse 10 we are told that no evil will befall us.

When I hear the song, “My Way” I cringe. This song actually originated in France by Claude Francois which told the story of a man living the end of a marriage where the love had been killed by the boredom of every day life. Paul Anka re-wrote the lyrics as My Way and it became a signature song for Frank Sinatra. I think back to the times in my life when I did it my way. What a disaster that was. I thank God that he rescued me from me. There were times in my life when I can honestly say that I was my own worst enemy.  I am so grateful that I finally got it through my thick head that He wants what is best for me and will give me the best if I allow Him to do so.

Have you figured out that God’s plans are best for you or are you still stumbling around trying to do things your way? Hey, I get it. I used to be stubborn too. I used to foolishly think that I had things under control. I know now that God’s got it. When God’s got it, I need to just keep my hands free, my mouth shut and enjoy the journey. He’s got good things planned for me. I can wake up each day knowing that even if it’s not a good day, that I will do His will and not mine. I will trust His way. I know that He is a much better planner for my life because He knows what my future holds. So, when you think about it, it’s silly for me not to do things His way, right? I don’t know what my future holds. I can attempt to plan, but without God it is futile. I am happy to say that although it took me a while, I have finally wrapped my head around that fact.

Each and every day I do my best to give it all over to God. I trust Him with all that I have and all that I do. My prayer for you today is that you have learned to do the same. If you have not, then what are you waiting for? Trust me, you will be so glad that you did.

Have a great day!
