He Is Worthy, Are You?

Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne saying:  “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, honor and power; for you created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.
Revelation 4:9-11 NKJV

Revelation chapter 4 gives us a glimpse of what heaven will be like. There are four creatures around the throne (vv. 6-9), and there are 24 thrones around the throne. The twenty-four elders sit on these thrones. They are clothed in white robes with crowns of gold on their heads. These 24 elders represent those of us who are redeemed and caught up to heaven.

If you are truly saved, you will go to heaven. We are told in 2 Timothy 2:12 if we endure or overcome, we will also reign with Him, but if we deny Him, He will deny us.

These 24 elders are dressed in white robes. We won’t earn these white robes but they will be given to us so we can be clothed in righteousness when we go before the Lord. We will be awarded or earn crowns for our serve here on earth. We won’t keep these crowns, but we will place them before the throne as we worship the Lord.

The definition of worthy is simply having worth or value. Someone or something that is important. So, do you consider Jesus worthy of your honor, worship, and praise? He died to save rotten, miserable sinners like you and me. While we were still sinners He died to save us. We are given the opportunity to draw near to Him and be called by Him to salvation. He didn’t have to suffer on that cross, but He did for you and me. So, you must ask yourself if He is worthy of your time? Is He worthy of your honor and your praise? We give Him honor and praise in the things we say and do and how we act and how we treat others. Is He worthy of this? Is it worth the time and effort it takes to be a Christian?

For many years if you had asked if I considered Him worthy, I would have told you yes, but I acted as though He was not worthy of my time and devotion. That was very foolish on my part.

I have come to realize He is worthy. He is certainly worthy of my first minutes and sometimes hours of my day. He is worthy of my meeting with others to praise Him and study His word.

I can do nothing without Him. I don’t deserve His love, goodness, mercy, righteousness or salvation but He freely offers it because of His unconditional love for a sinner like me.

Am I worthy? No, I am not. I am still a work in progress. I am still a sinner even though I don’t want to be. I still fall short day in and day out. However, I am given an opportunity to achieve perfection. I will never achieve it here on earth, but there will come a day when I wear that white robe. I will be perfect in Him and through Him.

I will receive crowns for my service to Him here on earth and will place them at Jesus’ feet.

My friend there will come a time when He determines whether or not we are worthy.

Our former pastor said that our life here on earth should be practice for when we get to heaven. Practice makes perfect. God expects us to worship Him, serve Him, praise Him here on earth because that’s what we will be doing in heaven.

If you are not already practicing, it’s a good time to start. It’s a good time to show God that He is worthy of your thanks, honor, and praise. He is worthy of your time and your devotion. And we can never be worthy without Him.

Have a great day!
