He is Still on the Throne

Then the One seated on the throne said, “Look! I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write because these words are faithful and true.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give water as a gift to the thirsty from the spring of life. The victor will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son. But the cowards, unbelievers, vile murderers, sexually immoral sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars-their share will be in the lake of fire and sulfur, which is the second death.
Revelation 21:5-8 HCSB

As we see the chaos that passes for humanity today, it’s sometimes hard to remember we are just passing through here. This is not our forever home. It’s easy to get caught up in the war between Republicans and Democrats and good and evil and it is often times hard to tell which is which. My friend often just says Isaiah 5:20. This Scripture has become a description of our nation today. Isaiah 5:20 says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness, who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”

And the next verse, Isaiah 5:21, is a great way to describe many of our politicians today. It says, “Woe to those who are wise in their own opinion and clever in their own sight.” Christians know that wisdom comes from God. We are clearly told in James 1:5 that if anyone lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who give to all generously and without criticizing and it will be given to him.

Maybe you have a very strong opinion about who you want to win today. Maybe you believe there is no good choice offered. Either way, we must remember a few things.

We must remember that no matter who wins, God’s sovereignty is still intact. He never changes. He keeps His promises. He is faithful and true. God never made political promises that He did not intend to keep. No human being can get this country back on track. Only God can do that. There will come a day where every knee will bow (Philippians 2:10-11, Romans 14:11) and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

These people who lie, which is an abomination to God, will one day be held accountable to God for their words and actions. These people who support things that God considers an abomination will one day have to answer for this.

God is faithful and true. We must remain faithful and true to Him. In Noah’s day in Genesis chapter 6 it said that God had become fed up with the human race because they had only evil on their mind all the time. But Noah was faithful. I can’t imagine that God is not fed up with our country now. As Ruth Graham once said, “If God doesn’t punish America, He’ll have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.”

Being faithful to a candidate won’t help you, be faithful to God. Put Him first. Trust in Him. No matter who wins the election, God will remain on His throne.

I believe there will soon come a day when God will say, “Enough is enough” and rapture His people. Until that day comes, trust in Him. Don’t put your trust in politicians, they are mere mortals and will only disappoint you.

Trust in God. Confess your sins to Him and repent. Trust in Him and surrender your life to Him. Remember you are only passing through here. Don’t get too tangled up in the things of this earth. Don’t argue about the election, just be sure about where your citizenship is. We are told in 2 Timothy 2:4 that no one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the recruiter.

God wants you in His army. Fight the good fight. Don’t get entangled in the affairs of this world but focus on your forever home.

No matter who wins this election, remember God is still on the throne. He’s got this.

Have a great day!
