If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 HCSB
Our scripture passage tells us that if we are willing, He is faithful. God won’t let us down. People will let us down because they are people, but God doesn’t let us down. We are told in Romans 8:28 that if we love the Lord and are called according to His purpose that He works all things out for our good. We are told in Psalms 91 that God is our fortress and our refuge in whom we can trust and that we will dwell in the protection of His shadow if we choose to live under His protection. If we do our part, we can count on God to do His part. But the big question here, is can He count on us to do our part?
It’s easy to be faithful when we are facing desperate times. It’s easy to get to church when we need God’s comfort. It’s easy to pray and read our Bible when we are caught up in turmoil and chaos. But can God count on us to be faithful and steady in good times and in bad.
When we get married, we recite vows that talk about us being faithful for richer or poorer in sickness and in health. We stand up before God and our family and friends and promise to love and honor our spouse. Our relationship with Jesus Christ is like a marriage, we are expected to be faithful. He will be faithful to us and we are expected to be faithful to Him.
There are few things we can count on in this world anymore. But, my friend, you can count on the fact that God is faithful. He loves you more than you will ever be able to comprehend (John 3:16). He wants to work all things out for your good (Romans 8:28). He has good plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11). He will protect you (Psalm 91). He will fight your battles for you (Exodus 14:14).
We can count on God, but can He count on you? Are you faithful to give ten percent of your earning to Him? Are you faithful to even give ten percent of your day to the Lord? Are you willing to give any time during the day to the Lord? Perhaps you are just too busy to study your Bible and pray? What if you came to God in desperation and He told you He was too busy?
We live in an uncertain world that is constantly changing. It leaves us unsure about many things like the economy, the weather conditions, our health, but there are some things that I am sure of. I am sure that Jesus loves me. I am sure that He will be there for me no matter what I may go through. I can count on Him to walk me through it. I know that He is with me through the fire and the rain. I also know that He expects me to be faithful. I know that my sin can create a barrier between Him and me (Isaiah 59:2). But, most importantly I know He is faithful.
I ask you today, are you faithful? Do you faithfully serve God? We can count on Him to be steadfast and unchanging. Can He count on you to do the same? One other thing that I also know is that there will come a day when we be judged and will have to answer for our unfaithfulness. Are you prepared to do that? Turn to Him today, confess your sin and repent. Trust in Him and obey Him. Rely on Him and be sure that He can rely on you.
Have a great weekend!
