“I commanded Joshua at that time: Your own eyes have seen everything the LORD has done to these two kings. The LORD will do the same to all the kingdoms you are about to enter. Don’t be afraid of them, for the LORD your God fights for you. Deuteronomy 3:21-22 HCSB
The Israelites had been afraid to cross over into the Promised Land because of the giants and the strong fortified cities. God had turned them back into the wilderness and granted their wish when they said they’d rather die in the wilderness than at the hands of these giants in the Promised Land.
Moses is transferring leadership to Joshua. They have successfully conquered two kings and Moses is letting Joshua know he has nothing to fear for God will be fighting for them.
In Exodus 14:14 when the Israelites had just left Egypt, Pharaoh and his army came after them. They had the Red Sea in front of them and Pharaoh’s army behind them. They were afraid. They began to grumble and complain. But Moses told them, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the LORD’s salvation He will provide for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you must be quiet.”
In 2 Chronicles 20:13-20, King Jehoshaphat had learned that two massive armies were coming against his kingdom. He gathered his people and they prayed to God for help. God told them not to be afraid because of this vast number coming against them for the battle was not theirs but God’s. He told them to go down against them, position themselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD. Again, God told them not to be afraid or discouraged.
We serve a God who fights what we fear. If we understand this, then it would make sense that we have nothing to fear, right? The devil wants us to be afraid. He wants us to feel vulnerable and helpless. But as Christians, we should never feel that way.
We must guard against feelings of fear. We must know that God is with us. We must know that He will never leave us or forsake us. He will fight our battles for us if we only trust in Him.
If you are going through tough times and fear is creeping in, don’t let it get control of you. Fear can paralyze us and stop us from doing what God has called us to do. This is just what the devil hopes for. Don’t let fear take over, let God fight what you fear.
We are told in Psalm 46:10 to be still and know He is God. We are to know He will be exalted among the nations. This means stop your fighting and know He is in control. He’s working for your good and His glory. He’s got this.
When you find yourself becoming fearful, allow yourself to become faithful. You can’t be fearful and faithful at the same time. Give it all over to God. Trust in Him to take care of you and walk you through the fire and the flame.
When you feel frightened, don’t let it overwhelm you, give your fears to Him. He will fight them. Focus on Him and He will provide all you need (Matthew 6:33). He will take good care of you.
Have no fear, just let God fight what you fear.
Have a great day!
