He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for Himself a people for His own possession, eager to do good works. Titus 2:14 HCSB
I want you to ask yourself a few questions. When was the last time you got really fired up about something? I mean really excited. As I ask myself this question, I am realizing I am much more apt to get fired up about something that makes me angry than I am about something good. I am less appreciative of the good things. But let something go wrong or get me angry and I can really get fired up.
Our Scripture passage tells us Jesus gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness. Jesus gave Himself, all He had and the best He had He gave for us. Why did He do this? Our Scripture passage tells us to redeem us from all lawlessness was one reason. We are born sinners. We are told in Romans 3:23 that all sin and fall short of the glory of God. The only way we can be redeemed is through Jesus Christ. In John 14:6 Jesus explains that He is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him. We can’t get to God and Heaven unless we go through Jesus Christ. There is no other way. So, Jesus unselfishly gave Himself for us so we could be redeemed.
He also gave Himself for us so that He could cleanse for Himself a people for His own possession. We were created to be in fellowship with Jesus. We were made to be His people. But He never forces that on us it’s a choice we must make. We must choose God and heaven by accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior. We must surrender and submit to Him.
Last but not least, He gave Himself not only to redeem us and to cleanse but to make us eager to do good works. This means if we accept Christ and surrender and submit to Him, He will redeem us, He will clean us up and we will get fired up about serving Him. We get fired up about sports, politics, hobbies and all sorts of other things but when was the last time you got fired up about Jesus and what He did for you? Maybe you never have because of what others might think. Maybe you are afraid of being called a Jesus freak. I look around today and see a lot of freaks, but not so many Jesus freaks. I would rather be a Jesus freak over what I’m seeing out there today. How about you?
I have never been in such a dangerous situation that someone had to die to save me except for my eternal salvation. Jesus Christ has done something for me that no one else ever has done and I hope never has to. He died so I might have eternal life. He did the same for you. Don’t you think it’s time you got fired up about that?
What are you fired up about? If it’s not Jesus, you may want to re-think that, just sayin’.
Have a great day!
