He said, “They are indeed My people, children who will not be disloyal,” and He became their Savior. In all their suffering, He suffered, and the Angel of His presence saved them. He redeemed them because of His love and compassion; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of the past. But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit. So He became their enemy and fought against them. Isaiah 63:8-10 HCSB
Ever wondered why God created human beings? Well, in Genesis 1:27-29 we are told that God created man in His image and His likeness. God created man to be in close fellowship with Him. God gave Adam and Eve dominion over every living thing. He gave them everything and only held the fruit of that one tree from them. But we all remember how that went.
Our scripture passage today tells us that God put us here to be his loyal children. He knew that Adam and Eve would mess up, He had already planned to send His Son to save us from our sins. When I read today’s scripture passage, my heart was touched when I saw the picture of a God that loves us. A God that suffers when we suffer and hurts when we hurt. A God that lifts us up and carries us when we are too weak to stand and walk. One of my favorite pictures is the footprints in the sand. I love the reading that goes with that picture. When we see two sets of footprints we are walking with God, when we see one set of footprints, it is not that God has left us, but that He is carrying us.
We know that we serve an awesome God, so why do we rebel against Him? Why do we turn from Him and allow our sins to place a barrier between us and Him. He only wants what is best for us. Why do we fight Him on this? I have asked myself these questions many times. I, much like the Israelites, would be going along enjoying my fellowship with God and then I would mess up. Just like Adam and Eve, I would have it all and I would just mess up and throw it away.
Our scripture passage today is pretty clear on the fact that if you rebel against God, he will finally get enough and fight against you. Do you really think you can win against the creator of the universe? I think not. I have lived a life of rebellion and all it brought me was heartache and shame. Eight years ago, I gave it all over to God. I promised that I would focus on Him and let Him clean up the mess I had made of my life. He promised to take care of it and He has. He also takes care of every other little nuisance that comes my way. I had to make a conscious decision to allow God to become my friend and to stop being His foe. I assure you, this is the best decision I have ever made. It is a decision that I have never regretted. I love Him and He loves me and I know that nothing can come between us.
Today, if you are rebelling against God, know what you are doing is futile. Know that there will come a point when God will fight against you. Know that there will come a point when God will give you over to your evil desires (Romans 1:24) and it will be too late. I encourage you today to make a conscious decision to commit your life to the Lord and allow Him to take over the problems you have. Allow Him to do what He does best, that is take good care of us. Choose today to be in a close, loving relationship with your Lord and Savior. Choose today to not rebel against God, the King of Kings, the Creator of the universe. I assure you, no good can come from that. Choose to be His friend, not His foe. Choose to be called a Child of God.
When your father is the King of Kings, you can rest securely under His wings of protection. You can rest assured that God’s got your back. You can have no fear and no anxiety because you can have faith in your Lord and Savior. You can have peace, comfort, and joy. The choice is yours. You can choose to live in close fellowship with Him or you can choose to grieve His Holy Spirit. Choose wisely.
Have a great day!
