“But the boat was already over a mile from land, battered by the waves, because the wind was against them. Around three in the morning, He came toward them walking on the sea. When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost! ” they said, and cried out in fear. Immediately Jesus spoke to them. “Have courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s You,” Peter answered Him, “command me to come to You on the water.” “Come! ” He said. And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me! “Immediately Jesus reached out His hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt? ””

This is an awesome story. Jesus not only walked on water, but gave Peter the power to do the same.
I have heard it said that the term “do not be afraid” is in the Bible 365 times, once for each day of the year. When the storm rages all around us, it’s easy to focus on the wind, the rain, the thunder, and the lightning. When we do this, we lose ourselves to fear. Satan loves it when we get distracted by the chaos and the storms that rage around us. When we stay focused on Jesus, the storm doesn’t seem so bad. When we have faith, we can do anything He calls us to do, even if it seems impossible.
Peter focused on Jesus, got out of the boat, and began to walk on the water. Yet when he got out there on the water, he became distracted by the storm around him and began to focus on the storm. This caused him to lose faith. Losing faith caused him to lose access to the power God had given him.
I’m trying to do better, but I have been in Peter’s shoes many times. God has called me out of the boat. The task he has for me seems impossible and I become distracted by all the negative thoughts. You know, the ones that tell me I can’t do it. Those voices that tell you, you will never be able to do what God is telling you to do. Those that tell you, you are not smart enough, bold enough, tough enough, to do it. These voices cause us to lose our faith in Jesus. Keeping our focus on Jesus helps to keep our faith strong and enables us to overcome the obstacles before us.
This blog is a prime example. I am one of the most technologically illiterate people you may ever meet. The idea of doing a blog seemed impossible. I made many excuses as to why I could not do this, but God reconnected me with a friend that I had not seen in many years. This friend just happened to build websites, imagine that. He built a website for me and very patiently taught me how to use this site and do this blog.
So remember, if God is calling you to step out of the boat, he will empower you to walk on the water. He never calls us to do anything that he doesn’t fully equip us to do.
Don’t be afraid. Keep the faith in Jesus and stay focused on Him and you can do anything he calls you to do.
Have a great day!
