Now if you faithfully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow all His commands I am giving you today, the Lord your God will put you far above the nations of the earth, All these blessings will come and overtake you, because you obey the Lord your God:  Deuteronomy 28:1-2  HCSB

Does your life feel like a horror story that you have no control over?  Well. if it does perhaps you should do a little self evaluation.  First let’s start with the big question, do you believe in God?  If you answered no to that question, I ask you to do a couple things.  First read the book, the Case for Christ by Lee Strobel and see what another non-believer discovered through extensive research in which he tried to prove that Jesus never existed.  Then come back and read this blog.  Now if you answered yes to that question, then we are off to a good start. So, if you believe in God, have you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior?  Perhaps I should say it as our Pastor said it this past Sunday, have you surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, your Lord and Savior?  You see you can believe and accept the fact that Jesus is Lord and Savior, but if you don’t surrender to Him you are going to have a much harder time keeping His commandments.

You see what I love about the bible is that these things that happened thousands of years ago are still very relevant today.  How do I know, well I have lived it, my friend.  I’m willing to bet that you have lived it or are living it too.  Now when I was living it I wasn’t smart enough to understand that I was living it. I was blind to the fact that my sin was separating me from God.  I had not yet figured out that my disobedience was causing some major problems in my life.  In our scripture passage God relayed to His people through Moses that they would be blessed if they kept His commandments and cursed if they were disobedient.  I have experienced that very same thing in my life.  I have lived through hard times when I was hard headed and I have lived with the peace and joy that comes from surrender and obedience.

I was foolish enough to think that other people were the cause of my problems.  But I finally realized that in every relationship, I was the common denominator.  I was the one that was in all these relationships where I considered these people to betray me or cause some other problem. Maybe I didn’t need to change everyone else, maybe I needed to change me.  Maybe I needed to be more obedient to God’s commands. What an eye opener that was.  Once I surrendered my life to Christ and began to make every effort to be obedient to Him, my life went from horror story to fairy tale.  Now you might think that this implies that my life is stress free.  Well, it is far from it my friend.  But there is a big difference now.  I am no longer handling all these stressful situations on my own.  I have help as a matter of fact, I have big help.  You see when I surrendered to my Lord and Savior, he became my refuge, my protector, my shelter and my rock.  I now rest in Him.  I know beyond a doubt that I truly will live happily ever after.

So, have you decided what it will be for you?  Will you live in that horror story where you are always running from the scary character and are afraid or will you live that fairy tale where you walk in the Holy Spirit with all the blessing and benefits that it has to offer?  I have decided that I want the fairy tale.  I am happily on my way to my happily ever after.  Won’t you join me?  Surrender to Christ today, trust in Him and allow Him to bless you beyond measure.
