Escaping God’s Wrath

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
John 3:36 ESV

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.    Romans 1:18 ESV

But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.    Romans 2:5 ESV

Warren Wiersbe said in his book, Be Victorious, “If men will not yield to the love of God and be changed by the grace of God, then there is no hope for them to escape the wrath of God.”

The Bible clearly tells us that if we are disobedient, we will be subject to God’s wrath. We live in a world today where people seem unconcerned about storing up wrath for themselves on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

We live in a fallen world. We are told in Romans 3:23 that all sin and fall short of the glory of God. We must be overcomers if we hope to spend eternity in heaven with God the Father.

Jesus showed us how to be obedient. He was obedient even to death on the cross. He suffered and died so that His blood may cleanse us from our sin. We are told in 1 John 1:9 that if we will confess our sins, Jesus is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

While we live here on planet earth, we are all just works in progress. We must strive for righteousness and press on toward the goal of perfection that will only be attained through God’s grace when we get to heaven. We must do our best to be obedient and to love Him with all our heart and trust in Him.

When we do this, it doesn’t mean we won’t suffer here on earth, it just means that we can be redeemed. We can be restored. He will walk with us in our times of trouble. He will guide us on the right paths (Proverbs 3:4-5). We will be rewarded for our obedience.

But know this, we are told in Hebrews 10:26 that if we deliberately sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for our sins, just a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries.

God will not overlook our sin. He will not condone our sinful behavior. He will punish us for our disobedience. We are told in Proverbs 15:29 that the LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous.

My friend, we are all going to spend eternity in one of two places. If you want to spend eternity in heaven with our Lord and Savior, you need to start preparing for that now. You need to humble yourself before Him and be obedient to His word. This is the only way we can escape God’s wrath.

Have a great day!
