Don’t Be a Fool

The fool says in his heart, “God does not exist.”  They are corrupt; they do vile deeds. There is no one who does good.
Psalm 14:1 HCSB

The Bible has a great deal to say about being foolish. We are encouraged to be wise. Proverbs 9:10 tells us the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. We are told in James 1:5 if we lack wisdom, we can ask God who gives it generously and without criticizing. Proverbs 3:7 tells us to fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

I truly believe we are in the end times. Whether you believe we are or not, if you believe the Bible, you know none of us know how long we have left here on earth. If you love the Lord and believe in Him, then you probably eagerly await spending eternity in heaven with our heavenly father.

Many claim to be Christians and claim to love the Lord but then you look at how they speak and how they act, and you wonder if they even believe in God. Our Scripture passage tells us the fool does not believe that God exists. We are told in Romans 1:18-24 what can be known about God is evident because God has shown it to us. His invisible attributes such as His eternal power and divine nature have been seen since the creation of the world being understood through what He has made. How can you not look at the sky and see the majesty in His creation? How can you look at the trees and the flowers and not see the beauty in this world He has made? How can you not believe?

My friend there is coming a day when we will be rewarded for our belief, our faith and our obedience or we will be punished for the lack of these. I have learned I can’t afford not to have Jesus in my life. I can’t go a second without Him. I can’t waste time not believing in Him. I can’t not serve Him. I can’t not love Him with all I have. I spent many years complaining about what God wasn’t doing in my life. I have come to realize that God knew what was best for me. He knew what my future would hold, and He did what was best for me as any good father would.

Believing Him is the first step in knowing Him. We are foolish not to believe Him. But it is only the first step. Truly knowing Him leads to loving Him. This leads to a close, personal relationship with Him. When we live our lives like God doesn’t exists, we are fools. Don’t be a fool, believe in Him, get to know Him, develop a close relationship with Him through prayer and Bible study. Trust in Him and obey Him. It’s not just about getting our names written in the Lamb’s book of life (Revelation 13:8). It’s about experiencing the peace and joy that can only come from being in close relationship with your Lord and Savior.

Romans 1:24 says that for those who don’t believe God will give them over to the lusts of their hearts. In Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus clearly tells us that not all who claim to be Christians will enter the kingdom of heaven but only those who do God’s will. Sadly, many will be rejected on judgment day. Simply put if we reject Him here on earth, we will be turned away from heaven.

Again, I say don’t be a fool. Believe in Him, trust in Him and obey Him. You won’t regret it.

Have a great day!
