Life was in Him, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, yet the darkness did not overcome it.
John 1:4-5 HCSB
There is a lot of darkness in our world today. People are calling evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20). The followers of darkness are coming after our children. Businesses that once stood on Christian principles are becoming increasingly concerned about inclusion and diversity.
We must remember that no matter how dark a room is when you turn on the light, the light overcomes the darkness. The darkness that is in this world will never overcome the light of men. This light comes from God from the life in Him and provides light for those who follow Christ.
We have a choice; we can be a part of the darkness. We can contribute to the darkness in the world or we can be the light. As small as a match is, when struck it will glow and give light to darkness. We should never think we aren’t good enough or strong enough to be light. We should never think that our lights won’t shine brightly enough to give light in this dark world.
Here in southeast Louisiana, we are no strangers to storms that lead to power outages. This puts us in the dark. We prepare for this with emergency lighting such as flashlights and candles. My living room has a small emergency light that stays plugged in. This keeps the batteries inside charged. When the power goes out, this light emits enough light to light up most of the room. It provides enough light for us to get other emergency lights going.
As Christians, we must stay plugged in through prayer and Bible study. We must keep connected to God through His Word. This is the only way we can be the light during dark times. This is the only way we can lead others to the light of Jesus Christ.
Numerous Bible passages tell us not to fear or become discouraged or dismayed. When we look at the darkness and evil that is all around us this may be easier said than done. When we get discouraged, we tend to grumble and complain. This does no good for us or those around us.
Let faith conquer your fear so that you can let your light shine. Matthew 5:15-16 says, “No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
Darkness will never overcome the light. When we surrender our lives to Christ, we have peace and joy that surpasses all understanding. This gives light to those who are lost in darkness. Let your light shine and bring glory to God. Help others to escape the darkness.
Have a great day!
