For it is contained in Scripture: Look! I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and honored cornerstone, and the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame!
So honor will come to you who believe, but for the unbelieving, The stone that the builders rejected-the One has become the cornerstone, and a stone to stumble over, and a rock to trip over. They stumble because they disobey the message; they were destined for this. 1 Peter 2:6-8 HCSB
We choose our destination when we plan vacations. Many people think that they have so many problems in their life because this is just what life has thrown at them. But often times our troubles are brought on by our poor choices. I can look back to many of the major issues in my life and can tell you that they were a direct result of times that I chose not to seek God’s counsel when making major decisions. They were times when I did not obey God. This in itself has brought more troubles into my life than anything else. Now, there have been times when my circumstances have been less than desirable through no fault of my own, but as long as I trusted God these things worked out well (Romans 8:28).
Our scripture passage today gives us a clear choice. We can choose to accept Jesus Christ as the foundation or the corner stone of our lives and believe in Him and obey Him and not be disappointed or we can reject Him and the very cornerstone will become a “stone to stumble over, and a rock to trip over.”
The last part of our scripture passage says they were destined for this. Now you could read that and say that certain people are just destined for failure, but this is not what that means. This means that we choose to accept Him or not accept Him. We choose whether we will be happy with our choice or whether we will stumble and trip our way through our lives. We can choose our destiny by choosing to believe or not to believe.
We can choose to be victorious or we can choose to be a victim of our circumstances. The choice is yours, my friend. So what will it be? You can accept Christ and believe in Him and obey Him and thrive or you can reject Him and struggle to survive.
I have never completely rejected God, but I have spent years straddling the fence. That did not work out so well for me. You see God hates lukewarm Christianity. He tells the church of Laodicea in Revelation 3:15-16, “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out my mouth.” So if you are trying to straddle that fence, please just pick a side.
Our scripture passage tells us that honor will come to those who believe and to those who do not, they will stumble.
You have the opportunity to choose your destiny. If you have taken a wrong turn, know that by believing in Him, trusting in Him and obeying Him that you can make a U-turn. You can change your destiny and get on the right path.
Have a great day!
