But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name.     John 1:12 HCSB

You ever read about someone rich and famous and wish they would adopt you? Maybe you watched a spectacular event put on by royalty and wished you could live like that.

Well, we all have the opportunity to be a child of the King of Kings. Our Scripture passage tells us if we believe in Him and receive Him, He will give us the right to be children of God. We don’t have to sit around like puppies in a pet store hoping to be adopted, we can believe in Him and receive Him and be a part of His family. How awesome is that?

And unlike being adopted by someone we don’t know; we can read all about Him in His Holy Word.  We are told in 2 Corinthians 6:18, “And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”  We are told in Romans 8:15 we did not receive the spirit of slavery so that we should fall back into fear, but we have received the Spirit of adoptions as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” We are told in 1 John 3:1, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so, we are.”

If we choose to be a child of the King of Kings, we can be adopted into His royal family. Galatians 3:26 tells us that through faith in Christ Jesus we are all sons and daughters of God.

Once we believe in Him and receive Him, and become a part of his family, we will want to give up things like intentional sin. We are told in 1 John 3:9 that no one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.

When we become part of God’s family, we want to do the things that please Him. We have been assured of a place in heaven. Jesus said in John 14:2, “In My Father’s house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

If we are willing to believe in Jesus and receive Him here on earth, a place awaits us in heaven with streets paved of Gold and walls made of precious gemstones. It will be a place of comfort, peace, rest and unending joy.

We are told in Revelation 21:4 that God will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

My friend, when we see the royal families of this world celebrate events in their grand fashion, we must understand that they are passing away. The things they own, and control are passing away. Their royal status is passing away.

God promises us eternity with Him in heaven. He promises we will share in the beauty and the glory and the awesomeness of His heavenly home.

So, if you watch the rich and famous and wish you could be like them, understand all they have is passing away. If they don’t honor God with the things they do, say and possess, they will be thrown into the lake of fire.

As God’s children, holy and sanctified, we can look forward to a life of joy, beauty and grandeur like this earth has never seen. I don’t know about you, but I will take a permanent residence in paradise over a temporary residence in this world any day.

To be adopted into the unending heavenly kingdom of God the Father, simply believe in Him and trust in Him. Receive His Son as your Savior and obey His commands. Life on earth is temporary. Once you are adopted into the kingdom of God, you will have an eternity of royalty waiting for you. Won’t you trust in Him today?
