Now you shall eat it in this manner: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste-it is the Passover of Yahweh. Exodus 12:11 LSB
Here Moses is telling the Israelites what God has told him to tell them. They are to slaughter a perfect lamb without a blemish, they are to roast the meat over a fire and eat it. They are to burn up any leftovers. They are to take the blood of the lamb and smear it on their door posts. In doing so, the death angel will pass over their house, and no one inside will die.
Now this is a beautiful illustration of how Jesus, the perfect lamb who was without sin, died to save us from our sins. When we accept His salvation, we are covered by His blood and can have eternal life with Him in heaven.
The Israelites were told to be dressed for travel. They were even to eat this meal with their staff in their hand. They had to be dressed and ready to go. So, are you dressed and ready to go?
The Bible has a lot to say about how we dress. As Christian women, we are told in 1 Timothy 2:9 that we should adorn ourselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control. In Deuteronomy 22:5 it speaks against cross dressing.
We are also told what to wear spiritually. We are told in Colossians 3:5-9 that we must take off things like sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, anger, wrath, malice, slander, filthy language and lying. These refer to our old sinful nature.
Once we are saved, we put on a new self (v. 10). We are to put on heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another just as God has forgiven us. We must put on love above all and let peace control our hearts (vv. 12-15).
We should also let the message about the Messiah dwell in our hearts and teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to God. Whatever we do, we should do in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him (vv. 16-17).
If you profess to be a Christian, you need to dress like a Christian. The first thing we are told is to remove sexual immorality. We as Christian women should dress modestly and leave a little to the imagination not displaying all for the world to see.
We should behave like Christians by putting off the things we wore as our old sinful self and putting on the things we should now wear as someone who is saved and headed to heaven.
I don’t know about you, but where I am going is usually what determines how I dress. If I am going to exercise, I wear something comfortable like leggings or shorts with a t-shirt. If I’m going to a wedding or an event, I will probably wear a dress or dress pants. If I am going to church, I may wear slacks or jeans or a dress depending on the weather and the occasion.
If we want to go to heaven, we need to dress as though that’s where we are heading. We should be dressed in compassion, kindness, humility and forgiveness. We need to adorn ourselves with God’s love for others. We need to speak and act in a way that lets others know we are a Christian.
Are you dressed properly for where you want to go? When I am in my pajamas, I am not dressed to go exercise. If I am being sexually immoral, mean, grouchy, using filthy language or slander or malice, I am definitely not dressed for heaven. That’s the attire for a trip to hell. It’s not just about being ready to go, it’s all about where you are going.
Consider how you dress and how you treat others. Then ask yourself are you dressed and ready to go? None of us know when we will make that trip so we must always be dressed and ready to go.
Have a great day!
