At that time, Hanani the seer came to King Asa of Judah and said to him, “Because you depended on the king of Aram and have not depended on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped your hand. Were not the Cushites and Libyans a vast army with many chariots and horsemen? When you depended on Yahweh, He handed them over to you.
For the eyes of Yahweh roam throughout the earth to show Himself strong for those whose hearts are completely His. You have been foolish in this matter. Therefore, you will have wars from now on.” 2 Chronicles 16:7-9 HCSB
I’d be willing to bet the majority of those reading this right now are struggling with some issue. I bet you are struggling with an issue that you are trying to fix yourself. I know what’s that’s like because I have done the same thing many times. There are still times when I lapse and do it now.
In our Scripture passage, Asa was a king who was completely devoted to the Lord. He did many good things during his reign, such as removing many pagan idols from his land. He even removed his grandmother from her position of authority, the queen mother, because she had a pagan idol. God blessed him and when armies came against him, he protected him and made him victorious. Remember yesterday, we looked at Romans 8:31 that says if God is for us who can be against us?
But Asa had this king come against him and instead of turning to God, he turned to another king for help. He phoned a friend you might say, just not the right friend. God is a good, good Father. He wants to help us in our time of need, but He never pushes His help on us. He allows us to do whatever we want to do even if it’s wrong. But He is there to give us that gentle nudge when we mess up. In the case of King Asa, he sent Hanani the seer to tell him. He told him he had been foolish. Are you being foolish?
No matter what problem we face, it’s not too big for God to handle. Many of our problems are too big for us, but they are never too big for Him. I want you to take a minute and think about any problem you may be facing today whether it’s big or small. Have you prayed about it? Have you turned to God and asked for His help? Have you given it over to Him and experienced the peace that comes from knowing He will take care of it because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7)?
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to Trust in the LORD with all our heart and not to rely on our own understanding; think about Him in all our ways and He will guide us on the right paths. This means that we acknowledge God and seek His advice and His help in all that we do. We trust in Him to work things out for our good (Romans 8:28).
The world has all kinds of policies and procedures and hoops that we must jump through to handle things in the “right way”. We have a chain of command and other sorts of manmade rules to follow. But if you really want something handled in the right way, go straight to the top. Trust Jesus with it. Trust in Him to take good care of your problem and good care of you.
Even the small problems we face in our lives can become big problems if we don’t trust in Jesus. Turn to Him today. Give it all over to Him and enjoy the peace that can only be found in Him (Philippians 4:8). He can handle whatever problem you are facing; He doesn’t need your help. He’s got this.
Have a great day!
