And God Said…

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.     Genesis 1:3 KJV

Omnipotence or being all powerful is one of God’s many attributes or characteristics. God created the heavens and the earth as we read in the first two chapters of Genesis. Create means to make something from nothing. Only God can do that. God actually spoke the creation into existence. In the first two chapters of Genesis, we see the term, “And God said…” or “Then God said…” repeated about 10 times.

We serve a God who is powerful enough to create the heavens and the earth and every living creature by speaking it into existence in just 6 days.

I guess what I am wondering today is when God speaks how many of us are listening? Now, I’m not talking about God speaking to us out loud in a conversation. I am talking about reading His Holy Word. God speaks to us through His Holy Word. Are you listening? In Genesis 1-2 we read about God speaking His creation into existence.

Many Bibles have the words of Jesus written in red. Do you get the significance of that? As you read through your Bible you are reading quotes from Jesus Christ Himself. He lived on this earth for 33 years and did not sin. He set the perfect example for us to follow. He gave us His words and instructions on how to get to heaven. Do you pay careful attention to those words written in red? Do you understand just how important it is to read His words and study His words?

God’s word is our foundation. It should be something we study and meditate on. It should be the guide we use for how we live our lives. In Deuteronomy 6:4-9 it says, “Listen, Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Where it says to bind them as a sign on your hand a symbol on your forehead, it is referring to phylacteries. Phylacteries were small leather boxes containing Hebrew texts which Jewish men wore at morning prayer to remind them to keep the law.

Many of us say we love the Lord with all our heart, but we fail to listen to His words or read His words. And saddest of all, is we fail to obey His words. My friend, if you simply read your Bible, you will find it will bring you closer to Him. If you are praying and not studying your Bible, you are trying to have one-sided conversations with God. You are doing all of the talking and none of the listening. If you’ve been talking and not listening, shut up for a minute, open your Bible, read and listen. Read God’s word. See what it is He has to say to you. Study His word so you can get a deeper meaning and develop a true understanding of what it is He expects of us.

We serve a God powerful enough to speak creation into existence and create the entire universe in just 6 days. You might want to listen to what He has to say.

Have a great day!
