A Marriage Made in Heaven

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.
Ephesians 5:31 HCSB

If you are doing your best to raise Christian sons and daughters, you should also be praying for God to join them with Christian spouses. The Bible tells us we should not be unequally yoked. The whole concept of two becoming one is difficult enough without the two being worlds apart spiritually.

In Ephesians 5:23-20 Paul talks about a Christian marriage. In verse 21 he encourages wives to submit to their husbands as to the Lord. This may sound difficult, but when we surrender to Christ it makes this process easier to understand.

And ladies if you don’t really care for this Scripture passage, keep reading. He gives the husband some tough tasks as well. The husband is to be the head of the wife and the Savior of the body. Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loves the church. He is to give or sacrifice Himself for her to make her holy, cleansing her. Husbands are to love their wives as they love their own bodies. Paul goes on to say in verse 29 no man hates his own flesh but instead he cares for it and provides for it just as Christ does for the church.

In verse 32, Paul speaks of how profound this mystery is and says he is talking about Christ and the church. He sums it all up in verse 33 by saying each man is to love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife is to respect her husband.

If you are already married, you may not feel your marriage is made in heaven. If you find yourself unequally yoked, it may be best to bear a silent witness and pray for your spouse. If you are dating, however, and contemplating or dreaming of marriage consider these things Paul mentions. None of us know what another person will do in the future. When we ask God to guide us in choosing a mate for us, however, we can trust in God for our future.

The only way two can become one flesh is through surrender and submission. The wife must submit but the husband must surrender and give his life for her.

Everything we do here on earth should be practice for when we get to heaven. In Revelation chapter 19 verses 7-9 the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has prepared herself. She was given pure white linen which symbolizes the righteous acts of the saints. In v. 9 He told John to write, “Those invited to the marriage feast of the Lamb are fortunate!”

The church will be ready. The bridegroom Jesus will come for His church. There will be a great marriage feast in heaven.

God created Eve to be a helper to Adam. He created marriage so that man would not be alone and so that people could multiply and fill the earth.

Marriage is just like everything else. Either we do it God’s way or we do it the wrong way.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Pray for a godly spouse. Trust in God and ask for wisdom and discernment in choosing or committing to a mate. Be sure you are equally yoked meaning you both have the same belief system and morals. And most importantly, once you find the one and make the commitment, commit your marriage to Him.

Men find a woman who will submit to your godly leadership and will be a helpmate and companion in your Christian journey. Care for her and love her as Christ loves the church. Give yourself for her. Be her spiritual leader.

Ladies submit to your husbands as the church submits to Christ. If you have been blessed with a godly man, be willing to let him lead you and your family as he should.

Our married lives should mirror our Christian lives. We must first submit to Christ and serve Him and His church. Then we can be a fit spouse.

Have a great day!
