Truth is missing, and whoever turns from evil is plundered. The LORD saw that there was no justice, and He was offended. He saw that there was no man- He was amazed that there was no one interceding; so His own arm brought salvation, and His own righteousness supported Him. He put on righteousness like a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and He wrapped Himself in zeal as in a cloak.
So He will repay according to their deeds: fury to His enemies, retribution to His foes, and He will repay the coastlands. They will fear the name of Yahweh in the west and His glory in the east; for He will come like a rushing stream driving by the wind of the LORD. Isaiah 59:15-19 HCSB
Whoever turns from evil is plundered, sound familiar? It is so easy to fall victim to the evil that is in this world. When we are attacked by evil, it is very tempting to attack back and use evil against the person. It tells us here that if we shun evil we will be plundered. At times it seems as if there is no justice. We must remember that we serve a God of justice and God will take vengeance for us. We must realize that our battle is not with human flesh, but against the powers of the dark world and the spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). We are in no way equipped to bring justice, but we are given God’s armor to shield us (Ephesians 6:13-19). We must also realize that this is not our battle to fight, this is the Lord’s battle (2 Chronicles 20:15) If you noticed in our scripture passage, God put on the breastplate of truth and the helmet of salvation, which is the same armor with which he equips us. However, he also put on the cloak of the garment of vengeance and cloaked himself in zeal. We know that vengeance belongs to God (Romans 12:19).
So what are we supposed to do while we are being attacked? Well, I’m glad you asked. The Bible has a lot to say on this subject. Psalm 46:10 tells us, He says, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among all nations. I will be exalted in the earth.” Verse 11 says, The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. So the first thing we need to do is just stop and be still. Know that God is going to handle this situation in a way that brings Him glory. This means that if you love Him and are living your life according to His calling on your life that He will work everything out for your good (Romans 8:28). Only when we get still and pray to God can we know what he wants us to do. Sometimes he doesn’t want us to do anything but let go and give it over to Him. Sometimes he wants us to suit up for battle, march to the front line, and stand firm and watch Him deliver us from this evil (2 Chronicles 20:17). But above all, he wants us to have no fear. Fear is the opposite of faith and we must remember that. The Bible has many passages where we are told not to fear. I have been told that it is in the Bible 365 times, one for each day, but I honestly have never counted myself. Deuteronomy 31:6, Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.
When justice isn’t coming soon enough, we often fall into fear. When the enemy is closing in on us, it is easy to become frightened, but in Psalm 91 God promises protection. I strongly encourage you to read this Psalm and read it often if you find that you are afraid. In this Psalm and in many other passages in the Bible we are told that God is our fortress and our refuge. In Ephesians 6:16 we are told to take up the shield of faith. We must have faith in God, not man. We must trust God to bring justice on those that practice evil.
Stay in God’s will, evil people are sent as a distraction technique by the devil. They want to distract you from doing what God has called you to do. So pray for them and give them over to God.
Most importantly never tire of doing good (Galatians 6:9). When it seems as though justice will never come, trust in God and His word. Trust also in His timing which is always perfect. Today’s scripture passage tells us that he will repay wrath to his enemies and retribution to his foes. God’s got this!
Have a great day!
