Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he should not depart from it.    Proverbs 22:6 NKJV

I don’t know of many jobs today that require no training whatsoever. Very few employers hire someone and expect them to walk in and be able to do the job with no training. Even if the person has performed that same job elsewhere, they may need to be trained on the way it is done at this job. There may be a different computer system used, or this employer may like some things done differently.

In some jobs if a person is improperly trained it can cause a whole plethora of problems leading to a long line of people with poor job performance.

The job of raising a child is not only the most important job a human will ever do, but it’s also one of the most difficult because you have the responsibility of turning out a good, responsible, independent human being.

I have to admit it was always a job I feared because I always heard everyone say there’s no manual on how do to this job. Also, having worked 18 years of my life with juvenile delinquents I saw those who had received very little or no training and the results were sad to say the least. I really didn’t know if I could do much better.

My parents were good examples of parents, and I guess I should have figured that I could just follow their example, but I didn’t. I later learned however, that the manual for raising children is the Bible. The Bible has a lot to say about how to raise children and we will talk about that later.

But right now, I want to focus on the training. If you went into a new job and received no training but then started getting disciplined or written up for not following proper procedures, you’d probably be upset, wouldn’t you? After all, how can they hold it against you when you were never taught to do it that way? How can you be disciplined when you were never trained on the proper procedures? If you were never even given a manual to read, how can you know how they want things done?

I can imagine how frustrating it could be for a child if the same things happen to them. If your world is too busy to read the Bible with your children or pray with them, should you really be upset when they don’t follow God’s rules? If you don’t make time to take them to a good Bible teaching church it might be a little confusing when you get upset with them for not obeying the commandments.

Biblical living is living in a way that pleases God. And I can assure you that if you raise your children to live in a way that pleases God, they will also bring you much pride and joy.

The job of a child is to grow and learn. They should be in training to be productive, responsible and caring adults. They should be able to not only survive but thrive on their own. Are you preparing your children for success in this cold, cruel world? Do they know that they can serve a God who can help them through the tough times? Do they understand that the most important thing they can do as children and as adults is to trust in Him and obey His commands?

If you don’t properly train your child, then there is a good chance you will be disappointed in how they perform as adults. Training directly influences or affects performance.

If you are trying to raise children in this chaotic world, surrender to God. He will be glad to help you.

And if you have no biological children of your own, be available to those children who are in need of proper training. Help their parents as they struggle because even doing it the right way can be a daunting task. And let them know that God is with them.
