Since the weapons of our warfare are not worldly but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments and every high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ.

Whatever we do we have to have our mind in the right place. You’ve got to have your mind in the game if you are going to play sports. You need to be focused when you are trying to work. And when we spend time with family, we should be there not only with our body but with our mind.

The same holds true when we face spiritual warfare. And trust me, if you love the Lord and are trying to do your best to serve Him, you will face spiritual warfare.

To do this, we must first know our enemy. We must get to know who and what we are up against. When the devil comes against us, we must rely on the Lord. Job is a perfect example of this. In Job 1:1, Job is described as being a man who was blameless and upright. He was described as a man who feared God and shunned evil.

Then in Job 1:6-12, Satan and God have a conversation about Job. Satan tells God that the only reason Job is so good is because God has blessed him so richly. God gives Satan control over all that Job possesses including his children but tells him he must not touch Job. After losing all of his many possessions and his children, Job does not curse God. Satan comes back and God allows Satan to attack Job’s health. Job still does not curse God and all that he had was restored to him. Of course, he didn’t get his children back, but he had more children. And his livestock was doubled.

Job suffered greatly. There is nowhere in the Bible that tells us we won’t suffer. Adam and Eve brought sin into the world when they succumbed to the temptations of the devil. Sin brings evil and we must understand when we are in the midst of a spiritual battle, we will face evil behavior.

So, the first thing we must do is understand how to conquer evil. When we go against evil, there are three things we must keep in mind. First in Romans 12:17 we are told that we must not repay anyone evil for evil. It also says we must regard good things in the sight of all men. This means you must want to do what is honorable in everyone’s eyes. In verse 14, Paul had instructed that we must bless those who persecute us. And if we go down to verse 21, it says that we must not be conquered by evil, but we must conquer evil with good.

In Romans 12:18 we are instructed to do our best to live at peace with everyone. If this is not possible, then we are told in verse 19 that we are not to avenge ourselves. We are to leave vengeance for the Lord.

When we think about entering a battle we think about destroying our enemy. We must maintain righteousness. We must do what is good and right in God’s sight to conquer evil. We see from reading Job that the devil can only go as far as God allows him to go. We must trust in God and stay focused on Him and let Him conquer the devil. What happens to our enemy should be left in God’s hands.

You should never go into battle if you are not mentally prepared. For a spiritual battle, we must set our mind and our hearts on Jesus. We must focus on Him and trust in Him. And most importantly we must remain obedient to His commands. This is the only way we will be able to be victorious.
