But evil men and imposters will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.    2 Timothy 3:14-17 NKJV

Many people claim to love God or to know God, but can you claim to be a man or a woman of God? What does it mean to be a man or woman of God? First, we have to bring ourselves out of the world. We can’t have one foot in the world and one foot in our faith and expect to do well with this.

Secondly, we have to believe in God. If we truly believe in God and His holy word, we will want to obey God. We will strive to be obedient and to do as we are told. We will strive to abide by God’s commandments. We will love the Lord with all our heart and love others as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39).

In order to be a man or woman of God, we must study God’s Holy Word. In this letter to Timothy, Paul begins 2 Timothy chapter 3 by talking about how in the end times men will be lovers of pleasure and lovers of self rather than lovers of God. I believe we are certainly seeing this in our world today.

He goes on in verses 10-17 to tell Timothy to hold fast to what he has been taught from childhood. Timothy grew up with a mother and grandmother that were believers and taught him to believe. He then had the privilege of further Christian teaching by Paul, himself.

Paul is telling Timothy to hold fast to what he has learned. We can all benefit from these teachings. We all need to understand that we must pay careful attention to the Scriptures. We must study the Scriptures. How else can we truly understand how to be a man or woman of God if we don’t do this?

It is through Bible study that we learn how to be a good child, sibling, parent, co-worker, church member and Christian. The Bible teaches us to look different than the rest of the world. Especially in these end times, we see people doing horrible things. This is why I don’t watch the news.

When people tell me about some of these things in the news, my response is always the same, “It’s Biblical.” I sometimes simply say, “Second Timothy 3:1-6”. As the Day of judgment draws nearer we will either become a part of the problem or a part of the solution. In order to be a part of the solution, we must stand apart from the world. We must study the Word.

We must be obedient to God’s commands. We must be more concerned with God than what is going on around us. We must be more concerned with doing things His way than with what we want.

When someone is a man or woman of God, believe me, it shows. Are you? God is looking for not only a few good men and woman, He wants us all to be with him for eternity. He wants those of us who are saved to reach out to others and show them the way to salvation through Jesus Christ.

I believe in the near future; we will be answering to Him for what we have done and the things we have failed to do. If we focus on being a man or woman of God, I think it will be a much more pleasant conversation.

Study God’s word so you can live God’s word. When you do this, even if you don’t know it, you will draw others to a life lived in Christ. Then you will be a man or woman of God.
