More Power Than You Ever Dreamed

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.     Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV

When we think of leaning on something we think of support. Good friends provide a shoulder to lean on. When we lean on our own understanding, however, we cause problems. Our Scripture passage tells us we should not do that, but we should trust in the LORD. It’s not easy to lean on the Lord because often times we don’t understand His ways.

In Isaiah 55 the Lord is telling the people through His prophet Isaiah to return to Him. He promises to have mercy and abundantly pardon them for their prior sins. They had fallen into idolatry and the Lord sent prophets to try to save them from captivity. In verse 9, the Lord says, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Simply put, God’s got this. We may not understand what He is doing or why He is doing, but He’s got this. When you study God’s word, you see He has a reason for everything He does. He has a plan long before we even know a plan is needed. He knows what will happen to you in the next minute and what will happen to you 20 years from now.  He knows how many hairs you have on your head (Luke 12:7).

We are not a number to God. We are each a unique individual. He has intimate knowledge of each and every one of us because He created us. He created us to be in close fellowship with Him. When we fail to do this is when we have problems. Oh, don’t get me wrong, we will have trouble even when we are in close fellowship with Him but it’s much different.

How is it different? When we try to tackle problems on our own, we are powerless. With Him we are powerful. Our strength and our power are in Him. I don’t care how tough or strong you think you are, the Bible clearly tells us without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5).

If you are experiencing difficulty in your life and things seem to be spiraling out of control, recognize who controls all things. Nothing is out of God’s control. And when you are facing things where you feel powerless, put them in the hands of the one who is all powerful, the Almighty God.

We are told in 2 Timothy 3:1-6 that human beings will become more and more difficult to deal with as the end draws near. I don’t know about you, but I’m seeing a lot of this all around me. It makes me believe we are nearing the end of the end times and drawing closer to the rapture.

We have no power except what we have through Him. If you are living your life trying to gain power of difficult situations, let me know how that works out for you. Give them over to Him, He has all the power. When we live our lives in Christ, then we have His power.

The hymn, Learning to Lean on Jesus, says, “I’m learning to lean, finding more power than I’d ever dreamed, I’m learning to lean on Jesus. Sad, broken-hearted, at an altar I knelt I found a peace so serene, all he asks is a childlike trust and a heart willing to learn to lean.”

If you want more power than you have ever dreamed, you have to learn to lean on Him. You have to trust in God. I know this from personal experience, my friend. I will admit I am a work in progress, I am still learning to lean but I have realized it’s the only way.

Without Him I am powerless. But there is nothing He can’t do so I must learn to give it to Him and lean on Him for power and strength. I pray you can do the same.

Have a great day!
