Washed in the Blood

And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Hebrews 9:22 NKJV

In Genesis 3 after Adam and Eve had eaten from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they were ashamed because they realized they were naked. In v. 21 it tells us that God made tunics of skin to clothe Adam and Eve. This was the first animal sacrifice.

There must be bloodshed for sacrifice. Jesus’ blood atoned for our sins. When the song says we are washed in the blood, it refers to what is said in our Scripture passage. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission. Remission as used here refers to the forgiveness of sins or the pardoning of sin.

When we think of cleaning our bodies or our clothes or dishes or whatever we use we think of using water to clean them. We would never want to fill our washing machines or dishwashers with blood.

But our sin is filthiness. It defiles us and it can only be cleaned by Christ’ blood. Christ shed His blood so that we could be cleansed of our sins. We have a choice; however, we can accept His sacrifice and ask Him to cleanse us and purify us or we can reject it.

The purpose of purification is so an unholy people can have fellowship with a Holy God. God can have nothing to do with us in our dirty, sinful states. We know from Romans 3:23 we are all sinners, and we all fall short of the glory of God. How we live our lives here on earth will determine our final destination.

If we choose to accept this great gift that God has offered us, we can be purified. We can be made holy. We will always be a work in progress while we live here on planet earth, but we can be perfected when we get to heaven so we can spend eternity in communion with God the Father.

Have you ever wanted something that was so expensive you couldn’t afford to buy it for yourself but had someone buy it and present it to you as a gift? Well, that’s what salvation is like. We can’t afford salvation. We can only be saved by Jesus’ gift of shedding His blood on the cross. It is a free gift, but He doesn’t force it on us we must decide to take it.

In order to spend eternity with God we must pursue holiness. Most of us are busy pursuing happiness but we must understand that when we pursue holiness, we can experience that peace and joy that can only come through salvation in Jesus Christ. We can experience peace and joy that do not depend on our circumstances. We can have peace and joy regardless of our circumstances.

In John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father except through Me.” Jesus is the only way. We must accept Him and surrender our lives to Him.

We must pursue holiness and righteousness. We can’t be righteous on our own, we must be washed in the blood. We are told in 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Are you washed in the blood? If not, you better get cleaned up because you never know when you will be called to go before the Lord.

Have a great day!
