I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. John 10:9 NKJV
In our Scripture passage, Jesus is explaining that only through Him can we find salvation. He also said in John 14:6 that He is the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father except through Him.
As we think about Christ as a door, I want to pose the question does that door ever close? Well, let’s see what the Bible says about this. Let’s begin by looking at another very large door back in Genesis chapter 7. I’m referring to the door of the ark. We are told in Genesis 7:16 that after all the animals and Noah and his family got on the ark, God shut the door.
It is estimated that it took Noah over 100 years to build the ark. All this time people had never experienced rain, just a mist that watered the land. These people thought Noah had lost his mind. They mocked him. All the while, Noah kept building and preaching and encouraging others to come onto the ark and be saved. We know from scripture, however, that only Noah, his wife, his sons and his son’s wives entered the ark.
Why did God shut the door? Well, people had been warned about the flood. They had seen the ark being built. They chose not to enter. After God had Noah and his family and all the animals on the ark, the time had come to shut the door. The time was up.
We all know that there will come a day when our time is up. None of us know when that day will be. Have you entered the door? Have you surrendered your life to Christ? Have you been willing to forsake your former life to be saved?
In Genesis 6:5-6 we are told that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. We are also told that God was sorry He ever made man.
You may say, “Well, I’m not that bad.” I hope you aren’t, but it’s not a matter of good and bad, it’s a matter of being saved or unsaved. We can only be saved through Jesus Christ. You can be a great person, a great sibling, spouse, child, co-worker, boss, whatever, but if you aren’t saved that won’t matter.
To be saved you must enter through the door. Another question we must consider is will the door ever be closed while we are alive on planet earth? Well, I believe Romans 1:18-24 tells us it can be. That Scripture passage tells us there will come a time when God just gives us over to our sinful desires.
Just as he closed the door on the ark and basically gave all those on the earth over to the flood waters, so will He give us over to our evil desires. He never forces us to come to Him, it’s our choice.
I’m begging you to walk through that door before it’s too late. Turn to Him. Confess your sins and repent. Ask Him into your heart to save you and help you to resist the temptation to sin. Give up your sinful ways and obey Him.
Walking through His door will bring you a healthy plate of salvation which comes with two sides, peace and joy. Try a taste of salvation and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8).
Our Scripture passage says that once we walk through His door, we can go in and out and find pasture. We will have all we will ever need. He will provide for us and protect us.
Trust in Him today before it’s too late and the door is closed.
Have a great day!
