There’s No Other Way

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  John 14:6 NKJV

Jesus says in this Scripture passage that He is the only way to God the Father. Jesus is our intercessor this is why we pray to Him and end our prayers by saying something like, “in Jesus’ name I pray…”. Following Jesus is that narrow way He speaks of in Matthew 7:13-14. Jesus is the truth. While the devil tries to fill our heads with all kinds of lies, Jesus gives us truth. We can trust in His Word. And only Jesus gives us eternal life through God the Father.

The old hymn, Trust and Obey, often plays in my head. The chorus says, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.”

There is no other way to God except through Jesus Christ. Jesus laid down His life for us so that if we are willing to receive Him, we can have eternal life.

The words of the hymn ring true in that the only way we will ever have the peace and joy that come from a good solid relationship with Jesus is if we trust and obey. Jesus gave His life for us, and He expects us to give our life to Him in return. He expects us to trust in Him. We are told in Hebrews 11:6 if we don’t have faith in God, it is impossible to please Him. No good parent would be pleased if their child didn’t trust them, right?

We can’t let our fears be bigger than our faith. I know there are times when we find ourselves in a situation that seems impossible, but we must remember with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26, Luke 18:27). We also must remember that when we love the Lord with all our heart and are called according to His purpose, He works all things out for our good. So, no matter how bad it seems, God’s got it and will work it out if you love Him and do as He has called you to do.

We show our love through obedience. In John 15:10 Jesus said, “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

Trusting and obeying aren’t always easy. You know I always say God calls us to do the hard stuff. Christianity is not for sissies. If we lack faith, we can pray to God to strengthen our faith. In Mark 9, a man brought his son to Jesus to be cured of a spirit that threw him into violent seizures. Jesus said to the man in verse 23, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” And in verse 24 the man cried out with tears, “Lord I believe, help my unbelief!”

When I find my faith is failing, I find comfort in Isaiah 41:10 which says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God, I will strengthen you, yes, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” If you feel fear creeping in, turn to the mighty hands that are willing to hold you if you will just reach out to Him.

No matter how obedient we strive to be, we are sinners (Romans 3:23), we are all just works in progress. The important thing is that we constantly strive to be better and to be more obedient. We must let go of intentional sin. This is sin we commit that we know is not right but for whatever reason, we just can’t seem to let it go. Hebrews 10:26 tells us God will not overlook our intentional sin but will judge us harshly.

My friend there is no other way to spend eternity in heaven than through Jesus Christ. Jesus demands faith and obedience. Trust in Him and obey His commands. There is no other way.

Have a great day!
