Faith or Fear?

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.     Hebrews 11:6 NKJV

I don’t have my own children, but I have a stepson and daughter-in-law, nephews and nieces, and a new granddaughter. I always want them to be safe and would do anything within my power to assure their safety.

Years ago, it gave me great joy to know that my little 3-year-old niece trusted me and my husband enough to take a running start from the deck and jump into our arms while we were in the pool. She trusted that we loved her enough and were strong enough to catch her and keep her from going under.

Could you imagine if someone you loved didn’t trust you? Well, this is what happens when we exhibit fear and let it rob us of our faith. We are telling God that we just don’t trust Him to provide for us and to protect us.

The Israelites would see God work these incredible miracles like parting the Red Sea and then within a few days they would fear dying of thirst in the wilderness. They didn’t trust God to provide for them.

I have often found myself in situations where I worried about being unable to handle the problem I was facing. I was right. It was too much for me to handle, but it was no problem for God to handle it. I have learned through some trials and tribulations that fear, and worry are choices we make.

Worry is a sin. Our Scripture passage tells us without faith it is impossible to please God. I’ve had many people tell me, “Well, I can’t help it. God made me this way.” No, He didn’t. A person, persons or event in your life may have made you this way, but I assure you God never intended for us to be worriers. The Bible clearly tells us He made us in His image in Genesis 1:27. The Almighty God is a mighty warrior who fights for us. He is not a worrier. So, don’t say God made you that way. He made us in His image to be warriors. We are told in Romans 8:37 we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. He made us to be victorious not fearful.

Fear is a choice we make. I know you are thinking why would you choose to be fearful. When we don’t take all of our worries or concerns to God in prayer and trust in Him, we choose to worry.

We are told in Philippians 4:6 not to be anxious or worry about anything, but to bring everything to God in prayer. We also should remember to be thankful as we make our requests to God. When we do this in faith, God will give us peace.

If you are a loving parent and your young child did not trust you to provide their needs or to protect them, how would this make you feel? God loves us enough to send His Son to die for us. Do you really think He wouldn’t give us what we need and provide protection for us?

Life here on earth is like a roller coaster of good times and bad. We will have times of sadness and times when things come against us. When this happens, we have the choice of faith or fear. We can worry and fret or we can give it over to God and trust in Him.

If you truly believe in God and believe He exists, get to know Him. Know that He rewards those who seek Him. Seek the Lord and let Him handle everything else (Matthew 6:33). He’s got this. He will take good care of you.

Choose faith, fear will only rob you of your peace and joy and you don’t want that.

Have a great day!
