Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea.  The Lord drove the sea back with a powerful east wind all that night and turned the sea into dry land.  So the waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with the waters like a wall to them on their right and on their left.                                                                    The Egyptians set out in pursuit-all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen-and went into the sea after them  Then during the morning watch, the Lord looked down on the Egyptian forces from the pillar of fire and cloud, and threw them into confusion.  Exodus 14:21-24 NIV

So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea returned to its normal depth.  While the Egyptians were trying to escape from it, the Lord threw them into the sea.  The waters came back and covered the chariots and the horsemen, the entire army of Pharaoh, that had gone after them into  the sea.  None of them survived.  Exodus 14:27-28  NIV

If you have never read the entire story of the Israelites escape from Egypt then I strongly encourage you to read it.  The story of the parting of the Red Sea is one of my many favorites.  If your opinion about reading the Bible is that this is stuff that happened over 2,000 years ago, then you are really missing out.  If you are a child of God and you have entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ then you will see this stuff happening every day in your life.  Now I have not actually crossed a sea on dry ground or even a river for that matter.  But I have walked through many a miracles.  You see the Israelites had been released by Pharaoh after many years in captivity and slavery to the Egyptians.  Pharaoh changed his mind after they left and sent his entire army to pursue them and bring them back.  So for the Israelites they had Pharaoh’s army in pursuit behind them and the Red Sea in front of them.  They were between a rock and a hard place.  They could have turned around and surrendered to Pharaoh’s army or drown themselves in the sea had they not been following God’s will.  You see God was the one who orchestrated their release from captivity and God never brings us anywhere that He can’t walk us through it.  Nothing is impossible for God. (Luke 1:37)

Where we get into trouble is we strike out on our own and we step off in quicksand and wonder why God isn’t pulling us out.  Been there, done that, and got the t-shirt.  You see it is a whole package.  It’s not a mix and match kind of thing.  I lived my life trying to mix my church going self with my party self and trying to match my god-fearing side with my “devil made me do it” side.  It didn’t work out so well.  But I have learned (I must say the hard way), that if I stick close to Jesus that He will take care of everything. There are some key elements required that I will share with you so you don’t do like I did at first.  First and foremost, you have to put God first in your life.  He has to have first place over everything else in your life, even your family (Matthew 6:33).  You have to love the Lord and be called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).  When you are called according to God’s purpose, this simply means that you are in His will and you are doing what it is that He has called you to do.  Last but not least, you have to have faith in God (Matthew 17:20). And never let yourself become prideful, but remember that God gets all the glory (Proverbs 11:12) Honestly, if you put God first in your life then the other stuff just comes naturally.

When we are in God’s will and we are doing what He has called us to do, nothing is impossible for us.  God will walk us through the fire, He will calm the storm, and He will part the sea for us.

A while back, I was going through a very difficult time.  I was being attacked by evil forces from what seemed like all sides.  Another important thing we must do is see evil for what it is.  It’s not that person that is your enemy but the evil force that drives that person  (Ephesians 6:12).  I clung to the Lord like a man who had fallen overboard might cling to a lifesaver.  I prayed continually and did my best to not go against God’s will.  I didn’t want to purposely sin and displease God in any way because I needed Him like I had never needed Him before.  When people who knew what was going on would ask me how things were going, I would just smile big and say “It’s like I’m walking through the Red Sea.”  I could feel God’s presence.  Evil people would try to do things to destroy me and it would always backfire in their faces.  My mantra became “God’s got this”.

My friend, if you feel that you are being attacked by evil forces, you need to know that there is only one way to combat evil.  There is an old saying that says “If you can’t beat them join them”.  Well with God fighting the battle for you, you can win every time.  The Bible is full of verses that assure us that He detests wicked people who plot evil against His children.  Isaiah 59:7,  “Their feet run to evil, and they are swift to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; desolation and destruction are in their highways.”

So if you are plotting evil against someone stop!  God detests this and we must allow him to handle any revenge that is due us (Romans 12:19).  If you are being attacked by people that are being driven by evil forces, cling to God.  Do what God calls you to do, not what you feel like doing.  Let God direct your paths and walk on!  Walk with your head held high.  Walk like the prince or princess that you are, a son or daughter of the King of Kings!  Walk in faith knowing that God protects us from evil.  Be ready to walk right through that sea when God opens it up for you.  And  know that those that plot evil against you will be swallowed up by the sea if they continue their relentless pursuit of you!
