Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! Psalm 33:12
Israel was God’s chosen people. God called Abraham to move from his home and brought him to the land of Canaan and promised to make his descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. God fulfilled that promise.
When the nation was enslaved in Egypt, God brought them out of Egypt in attempt to bring them into Canaan or the Promised Land. They wandered around 40 years in the desert. This should have been a two-week journey. Many of them would never see the Promised Land. Why? Because they grumbled and complained. Instead of being grateful to God for all he had given them, they whined about everything they could find that wasn’t going just as they had hoped.
In Deuteronomy 28, God promised blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. The Israel nation would reject God time and time again. God would allow them to be taken into captivity in Babylon where they would stay for 70 years. Through all this God had a plan for restoration. He planned to send His Son to save them and us from our sins.
I hear a lot of grumbling and complaining about his election on both sides. We have freedom of speech so we can say or type whatever we please. We seem to forget God’s place in all of this. We tend to neglect what the Bible tells us to do.
In Romans 13:1-2, we are told to submit to governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God and those that exist are instituted by God. So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing God’s command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves. Whether you like or dislike a candidate, you need to understand that these people are put in place by God. And maybe this nation has gone so far from God, He has decided not to give us what seems to be a good choice in an election. Maybe He has decided we don’t deserve good, Christian leadership.
I also can find nowhere in the Bible where it mentions the good old U. S. of A. in the end times and Revelation. This could mean that we will cease to exist as a nation prior to the rapture.
What I’m trying to say is that God is at work in our elections. God has got this. Your opinion or your feelings really don’t matter. I hate to break it to you, but that’s how it is. We need to be on God’s side in all elections.
Instead of grumbling or taking to social media with your complaints and opinions, stop to think about the Israelites. They grumbled and complained and whined and it only brought them more trouble. It was during the times of their devotion to God that He blessed them. You don’t see a lot of that in this country today.
If you read through the Old Testament, you will see that those who remained true to God were blessed even during captivity. I don’t know what is in store for our nation, our state and our local politics. I do know that if we are expecting any human being to fix the problems of this country, we will be seriously disappointed. Only God can do that.
As you consider this election, I’d like to share a few passages of Scripture with you. Acts 5:29 tells us we must obey God rather than men. Titus 3:9 tells us to avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. Why should we argue and fight over what is clearly in God’s hands?
And most importantly, 1 Timothy 2:1-2 tells us to pray for those in high positions so that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
I am seeing many elections on many levels today where there seems to be no choice for a good, Christian candidate. Maybe God is trying to tell us something.
Have a great day!
