Acknowledging God

There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the LORD’s counsel-that will stand.     Proverbs 19 NKJV

I often wonder how people make it through life without God. The answer to this is they don’t. Even those who don’t acknowledge Him or accept Christ as their savior are still under His control. He still gives them a choice, but He is a sovereign God and His will is going to be done regardless.

We are told in Proverbs 3:5-6 that we should trust in the LORD with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. We are to acknowledge Him in all our way, and He will direct our paths.

When we acknowledge God, we consult God. We stay in constant communication with Him through Bible study and prayer. When we accept Christ as our Savior, we surrender our lives to Him. This means we don’t act on our fleshly desires, but we walk by faith and trust Him to get us through trials and temptations.

Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” So, what does it mean to acknowledge God in all we do? What does this look like in our day-to-day life? It looks like surrender. It means we pray before we act. We go to God with everything, the good, the bad and the ugly. We trust in Him.

The Bible is not telling us not to plan, it is simply telling us to include God in those plans. We must acknowledge that He has complete control.

James 4:13-15 says, “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

It is prideful when we think we are in control. It is arrogant to not acknowledge God’s sovereignty and include Him in all we do.

We know planning is important, but we must first plan to seek God. We must first plan to lean on God and acknowledge Him in all we do. We make our plans knowing those plans will be fulfilled if they are God’s will. Ultimately, God’s will is best for us, even if it doesn’t seem like it at the time. We are told in Romans 8:28 that God works all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

And know that if you plan to sin, God will often allow it. He gives us free will. Please also know there will be a price to pay. Can you afford it?

Acknowledge God in all you do. I find when I do this it helps to keep me from making big mistakes that cost me dearly. Give it over to God and let Him direct your path.

Of course, you don’t have to acknowledge God, but your life will be so much better if you do.

Have a great day!
