It’s almost daylight

The night is nearly over, the day is almost here.  So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.  Let us behave decently, as in the daytime not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.  Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.  Romans 13:12-14 NIV

There’s an old saying that nothing good happens after 10pm.  Many criminals prefer to work under the cover of darkness.  I have noticed that people with evil intent tend to creep around in the darkness, victimizing their prey.  Often times as children we develop a fear of the dark.  The dark is the time when the monsters come out of our closets and from underneath our beds.

The Bible tells us in Luke 12:3 that whatever we say in the dark will be heard in the light.  In other words don’t think that when we do wrong just because we are under the cover of darkness, God doesn’t know about it.

As Christians, we are to behave properly whether we are in the dark or in the light.  We are to behave decently.  We are not to be drunk, we are not to engage in sexually immoral activity, we are not to stir trouble.

I love the last part of this scripture that says, “clothe yourselves with Jesus Christ”.  Can you imagine wearing the goodness of Jesus Christ like a robe protecting you from doing what you should not do.  If we all clothed ourselves that way each morning, it may make a big difference as to how we handle problems during the day.  If we were more focused on pleasing God, we would be much less focused on satisfying our own fleshly desires.

If you have found yourselves caught up in the dark, don’t worry, daylight is near.  Turn to God. When we turn to God, He gives us righteousness.  Clothe yourselves daily in God’s righteousness.  Turn to Ephesians 6 and look at God’s armor and remember to clothe yourselves in His armor before you begin each day.

God equips us to battle what may come at us in the darkness or the light, but we must draw near to Him.  We must also remember that the battle is the Lords.  In most, cases He just needs us to suit up and stand firm.

In this scripture passage, remember that He is saying that the day is near.  The daytime is the time when all that has been done in the darkness will be exposed.

If your world has seemed particularly dark lately or if you have fallen victim to those evil type of people that slink around in the night and wreak havoc, hold on.  Daylight is coming soon. Trust in God and know that He is there for you.

We are told many times in the Bible that we should not be discouraged or afraid for the Lord our God is with us.

So whether you work in the daytime or the night, when you prepare yourself to go out into the world for the day, clothe yourself in Jesus Christ.  Use that as a protective barrier against the evil desires of the flesh.  Know God is there for you.  Make time each day to pray to Him and ask Him to guide you through the day.  Read God’s word and see what He has to say to you.

My prayer for you today is that you have a close relationship with Jesus Christ and that you can feel his presence in your life.  When we have that, the dark is much less scary and we know that we are always in His light.

Have a great day!
