There will be trouble

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33 NIV

I have read the Bible through several times and I can promise you that there is no passage of scripture that says that  once you accept Christ as your savior that your life with be a bed of roses and your troubles will all go away.  On the contrary, the devil gets to work trying to win you back when you get saved so that can be a kind of tumultuous time if you are not careful.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that we will never have trouble, but there are plenty of verses that tell us not to worry and not to be afraid.

When I felt that God was calling me to do a blog and my friend was trying to get my website up and running, picking a name for it was the biggest challenge.  I needed to pick something that wasn’t taken, but I wanted it to point directly to how God takes care of us.  There were two verses that stood out at this time.  The first was Matthew 6:33-34, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  These verses clearly tell us that “God’s got this” which became my mantra when I was going through a very difficult time.  Just repeating those three simple words had a way of calming me and giving me that blessed assurance that no matter how bad things got, that God held my future in His hands.  Knowing this, I also knew that Romans 8:28 would hold true, “All things work for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.” And it did.

When it came time to name this website, I went with John 16:33 because I like the fact that Jesus is honest with His disciples and prepares them for trouble.  He lets them know that troubles will come their way, but that they are not to worry.  Just as we should not worry because we serve a risen savior who has overcome this world.

As Christians, we too will overcome the world.  No matter what we may have to endure while we are here on planet earth, someday we will spend eternity in glory with our heavenly Father.  Just as Jesus Christ arose from the dead and ascended into heaven to be seated at the right hand of God, the Father, we too will conquer sin and death and be brought to heaven to spend eternity there.

Now there is a catch, right, you knew it.  Of course, there is a catch.  In order to overcome the world and spend eternity in glory, we have to believe in Jesus Christ and trust in Him as our Lord and Savior.  My hope for you today is that you have done that.  If you haven’t done that, then there is no time like the present.  Spend some time in prayer and Bible reading.  If you are not involved in a good Bible teaching church, then pray for God to lead you to one.  Pray for God to put good, Christian friends in your life to help you as you begin your walk with Christ.

We are all going to experience trouble during our time here on earth.  The question for you today is are you going to try to go through this trouble with Christ or without Christ?  Now I have tried it both ways and let me tell you something, I will never again try to handle the trouble of this world on my own.  I will never again go through a day of my life without Jesus Christ.  I’ve been there and done that and it’s no fun my friend.

So today as you are reading this, I hope that you are secure in your relationship with Jesus Christ.  If you are not then I sincerely hope that you develop a relationship with Him.  He’s waiting for you with open arms.  What are you waiting for?

Have a great day!
