He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall their be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4 ESV
One song that I love to hear during the holiday season is, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. This song was written in 1963 by Edward Pola and George Wyle. It was recorded and sung that year by Andy Williams on his first Christmas album. The song was written in triple time and has a very upbeat tempo. It lists all the fun things about the holiday season like roasting marshmallows, caroling, playing in the snow, and parties.
Yesterday I thought back over the past several years. I thought back to how many Christmases were spent in the hospital with loved ones. I thought about those who have lost loved ones during this season. I thought about my loved ones that have gone to be with our Heavenly Father and how much I missed having them here. There was a tragic accident near our home on Christmas Eve which took the lives of a young mother and her son. My husband’s extended family suffered a loss and will be preparing to attend memorial services this week. Others who have lost loved ones earlier in the year are trying to celebrate the holidays while missing a loved one. They struggle to pick up the pieces and move on. For some it is anything but the most wonderful time of the year. Some struggle just to get through this season.
But when we read the scripture passage in Revelation, we see that these heartaches and tears are temporary. We are promised that once we get to heaven our tears will be wiped away, death shall be no more, and we will no longer, mourn, cry or be in pain. What a glorious day this will be!
I hope that for you, all is well and this truly is a wonderful time of the year. I hope that you are thoroughly enjoying this holiday season. But if your eyes are filled with tears, if you are mourning a loss, if you are in pain, then know this is temporary. Focus on God and He will see you through. Know that these things will pass. And most importantly, know that God’s got this! Run to God, allow Him to comfort you as only He can and trust in Him.
Have a blessed day!
