Sorry, I’m Not Going to Worry About That

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.     Philippians 4:6-7 HCSB

Apparently, there are some outlandish stories on the news these days. I have to admit though, I don’t want to hear it. You can say I’m just sticking my head in the sand. Perhaps that’s how you see it. I see it as trusting in God. I can’t worry and trust in God at the same time. I must choose between the two. We know that fear is the opposite of faith. Well, worry is a type of fear. The two go hand in hand.

I choose not to worry about the things going on in this world. I choose to believe that even though we may suffer for a while, God has good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11). I choose to believe that all things will work out for our good as long as we love the Lord and serve Him according to the purpose He has for our lives (Romans 8:28).

I can’t give God my all if I’m sitting around wringing my hands about all the horrible things going on in the world. These things only seem to provide a distraction to get my focus off of God. So, I’m very sorry but if you relay some bit of news to me and I don’t seem to be overly concerned, it’s because I’m not going to worry about it. I am going to trust in God.

I know God’s will is going to be done. And for all of those who can’t understand why God allows bad things to happen to good people, well once sin came into the world which was shortly after it was created, it messed things up.

There is no Scripture guaranteeing a lack of suffering. Suffering is a part of life, unfortunately. We are told we will be persecuted if we follow Jesus Christ. Jesus said in Matthew 5:11 we are blessed when we are persecuted and insulted because of Him.

We are told in 1 Peter 5:10 that after we have suffered a while, God Himself will personally restore, establish, strengthen, and support us. In 2 Corinthians 1:4 we are told He comforts us in all our affliction, so we may be able to comfort others through the comfort we receive from God.

I’ve noticed lately a lot of people are spending a lot of time watching or listening to the news. Sadly, most of it is bad news. In all honestly, I don’t even trust mainstream media to tell me the truth. I choose to focus on God and trust in Him. So, again, I’m sorry but if you are fretting over something you’ve seen in the news, I’m not going to join you in worrying about that.

Several years ago, I was going through a tough time and my mantra became, “God’s got this!” I still live by those words today or at least try my best. My friend, whatever is going on, God’s got this. Be careful about what you take in, because that is what will come out.

Don’t let all that is happening in the world around you cause you to worry and fret. The devil loves to distract us with all the evil going on today. Don’t let Him do it. Focus on God and trust in Him.

Exchange your worries for peace and joy.

Have a great day!
