Therefore, since we have this ministry because we were shown mercy, we do not give up. Instead, we have renounced shameful secret things, not walking in deceit or distorting God’s message, but commending ourselves to every person’s conscience in God’s sight by an open display of the truth. But if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. Our Scripture passage today is speaking of Spiritual blindness. Blindness is something that we might consider an illness or a handicap. There are things that cause blindness that can be cured and things that cause permanent blindness for which there is no cure available.
The world has been turned upside down over the last 18 months due to the COVID-19 virus and its variants. We have been told to watch for certain symptoms such as fever, coughing, body aches and the list goes on. I have had the flu several times in my life. I have to admit when I got COVID, the symptoms were the same as the flu. It started with body aches, chills and fever.
Many years ago I got the flu and waited a couple days before going to the doctor. He said I had come to him too late for him to prescribe Tamiflu which was supposed to decrease severity of the symptoms and help shorten the length of the flu. The next time I got the flu, I went to the doctor within 12 hours of symptoms appearing. I wanted to ease my suffering.
Our sin is like a really bad illness. Unfortunately, if left unchecked, it is terminal. But there is a cure. The problem is if we don’t know we are sick, we usually don’t seek a cure. With COVID the scary thing is that some people are asymptomatic and can spread it never knowing they had it in the first place. If you don’t know you are sick, you aren’t looking to cure your illness, right?
I suffered in my sin for many years not knowing I was sick. I ignored my symptoms as much as I ignored the ten commandments. I had spiritual blindness. I couldn’t see how my sins were separating me from God. I was spiritually deaf. I was able to tune the preacher out when he preached against some of the things I was doing. I was perpetually sick and tired. I suffered with a great deal of stress and migraines.
When my spiritual sickness got the best of me, I cried out to God. I was seeking a cure. I gave it over to Him and He healed me from within. He removed the spiritual blindness and cured my selective hearing loss. He removed symptoms of anxiety that had been brought on by my sin.
If you felt that you were coming down with the flu or COVID, you would probably go to the doctor. If you got really sick and didn’t know what was going on, you would be seeking a cure. When my husband and I got COVID, we immediately went for a monoclonal infusion. We felt much better within 24 hours. The nurse told us that was the closest thing they had to a cure.
There is a surefire cure for your sin. It is found in Jesus Christ. If you are sick with sin and perhaps sick of your sin, then turn to Him. He will heal you from the inside out. You can trust in Him.
We put our faith in doctors, medicines and lots of other things that will do us no good on judgment day. Isn’t it time you put your faith in Jesus. I fear that before we know it, it will be too late. Turn to Him today and be cured. Turn away from terminal death in the fiery flame and turn towards eternal healing in glory with our Lord and Savior.
