Deliberate Sin Never Ends Well

For if we deliberately sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries. Hebrews 10:26-27 HCSB

1 John 1:9 tells us that if we will confess our sins to Him, He is faithful to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that if we are saved through faith in Christ that we become a new creation. Old things have passed away. Salvation is a precious gift from God. He gave His Son to die a horrible, humiliating death so that miserable sinners like you and me could be saved from being banished to a fiery hell for all eternity.

Our scripture passage says that if we deliberately sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there is no longer a sacrifice for our sins. Hebrews 10:28-29 asks if someone sins against Moses law and is put to death, how much worse  do you think the punishment would be for someone who has trampled on the Son of God, regarded the blood of the covenant by which we are sanctified and insulted the Spirit of grace? When we deliberately sin we insult God. We show a total lack of appreciation for His Son who died to save us from our sin. This will not end well.

James 4:17 says whoever knows the right thing to do, but does not do it, is sinning. 2 Peter 3:9 says that the Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise, but is patient with us. He doesn’t want anyone to go to hell, but wants us all to come to repentance. Romans 3:23 says that all sin and fall short of the glory of God. We are born with a sinful nature. You don’t have to teach a child to lie or steal a cookie when no one is watching. But God wants us to be saved. When you see bad people going on with their evil behavior you are actually witnessing God’s patience. God wants all of us to turn to Him. He wants to protect us and shelter us from harm (Psalm 91). He wants to work things out for our good (Romans 8:28). There is an old saying, “Only the good die young”. This indicates that good people suffer while evil people seem to go on enjoying their lives. Well have you ever thought about this? When the Christian dies they go to heaven which is the best thing that could ever happen to them, right? Perhaps God is allowing the evil to continue on because He is patiently waiting for them to turn to Him. I happen to know personally evil people who are suffering but doing their best not to let anyone know it. We never know what’s going on behind the scenes.

We sin deliberately when we know what we should do and fail to do it. We sin deliberately when we know what we should not do, but do it anyway. Our scripture passage says that if you sin deliberately, there no longer remains a sacrifice for your sin, but this does not mean that all is lost. God is patient. He does give us time to consider our ways and turn to Him. But be very careful about taking too long to do this. We are clearly told in Romans 1:24 that God will give us over to our evil ways if we fail to turn to turn from our evil behavior and come to Him.

If you are in bondage to intentional sin and feel that you cannot let it go, turn to God. He can help you break those chains and free you from the sin that has held you captive. He wants to rescue you, but He won’t rush in unless you ask Him to. For years I listened to the lies the devil told me about my intentional sin. I believed the devil when he told me that God would understand and overlook my sin. That is a lie. If we do anything that is against what is in God’s Holy word, God will deal with us. He may have patience in doing so, but there will come a time when we will pay the price for our sin.

The devil wants you to believe that your sin is no big deal, but believe me it is. Don’t listen to his lies. Turn to God and ask Him to free you from the devil’s chains.

Have a great day!
