You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. James 4:4
Wow! These verses make it pretty clear. We have to choose between God and the world. I spent a great deal of my earlier years trying to have one foot in the world and one foot in the church. That did not work so well.
We have a choice to make. We can choose to serve God and be loyal to Him or we can choose to be in the world and please those that are in the world. The problem with pleasing those in the world is that it’s not a very good long term goal. It has no real future and could lead to hell if you are not careful. Choosing a life with God means that we are working our way to heaven. Oh by the way, an eternity in heaven, not just a brief stay.
God loves us and more than anything he wants us to choose a life with Him, but he will not force it on us. We are free to choose. How many times have you not done what God wanted you to do because you were afraid of what your friends might think or say? Is it worth it for you to be an enemy of God just to please or impress your friends? This is something we all must carefully consider.
I have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. I have done things because I have worried about what someone may think or say about me and then been miserable because I had to live the pain of disappointing God.
I decided long ago that as long as God is happy with me, what men or women may think is irrelevant. Don’t get me wrong, I try to be kind to others and be friendly. However, if I have to sin to make my friend happy then I need a new friend.
This is why in the last few years, I have surrounded myself with good Christian friends. These friends not only mentor me but they hold me accountable.
I thank God for good, christian people. I especially thank God for the good, christian people that he has put in my life
Remember to pray to God for guidance. Also remember to follow him even if makes you an enemy of those in the world.
Be God’s friend, even if means making an enemy of the world. Have a great day!
