Above It All

Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never grows faint or weary; there is no limit to His understanding.  He gives strength to the weary and strengthens the powerless. Youths may faint and grow weary, and young men may stumble and fall, but those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:28-31 HCSB

We have spent the last six weeks in our Sunday School class studying the hope that we have in Christ. But we must be aware of the devil’s tactics. We are told in Ephesians 6, verses 10-18 that we must guard against the devil’s tactics and suit up in God’s armor to be protected from the devil’s schemes. We can see every day how the devil is busy at work here on planet earth. He is busy trying to recruit as many for his team as possible. And if you look at it, he seems to be doing a good job. But the Bible tells us that we are to focus on the things above and not get entangled with all the problems here on earth. You see, we are just passing through this planet on our way to a much better place.

There is an old saying that says, “You will never soar with eagles if you hang around with a bunch of turkeys.” The Bible says that bad company corrupts good morals (1 Corinthians 15:33). If we don’t remember the things that our scripture passage tells us to consider, then we may lose hope. Our scripture passage reminds us that God is the Creator of the entire universe. He knows what our future holds. We must remember that He is not surprised by what is happening in our nation and the world around us today. He never grows weary and He gives us strength. We are told in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

We are told in John 10:10 that a thief comes only to steal, to kill, and to destroy. The devil is working hard to steal our joy, kill our hope and destroy our witness. He wants to keep us tangled up in all the wrong that is going on down here. But my friend, you must stand firm in these trying times. You must focus on what is above. We are told in Philippians 4:8 that we should focus on what is pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. We are told in Matthew 6:33 that if we seek God and His righteousness that all that we need will be provided.

In the midst of the turmoil and the chaos that is swirling all around us, we can see God working through it all if we only look for it. If we look for the good, we will find it. Just the other day as I was out cutting grass, I watched the birds come to eat the grass seed on the section that I had already cut. Some were eating and some were flying high as if they hadn’t a care in the world. We are told in Matthew 6:26 that if God takes such good care of the birds then He will certainly take care of us.

If you want to soar like the eagle, you must let go of the burdens that are weighing you down. You must completely give them over to God

No one wins a race by watching what is behind. Our focus should be on the things above. We should be watching where we are going. Don’t allow the devil and his minions to distract you down here.

Don’t you know and haven’t you heard that God is the Creator of the entire universe? He’s got this. If you want to remain strong and steady, trust in Him. He will renew your strength and allow you to soar on wings like the eagle.

Have a great day!
