Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous hand. Isaiah 41:10
Do you remember being read the story of Chicken Little as a child? For those of you who are too young to know what I’m talking about, I’ll explain. Chicken Little was walking through the forest when she was struck on the head by an acorn. She immediately thought that the sky must be falling. She ran to go tell the king and ran into Henny Penny. Henny Penny joined in with her and they ran into Ducky Lucky who decided to go with them. They all three ran into Foxey Loxey who assured them he knew a shortcut. Foxey Loxey’s intent was to lure them into his fox hole and have them for supper. But just as they were about to go into the foxhole, the king’s hounds came running after Foxey Loxey and chased him into the forest.
Many are comparing the Coronavirus scare with Chicken Little. There are those who are taking “The sky is falling!!” approach to this. I want you to know that I am not downplaying this virus in any way, but I think that we should be able to take precautions and prepare without panic. One of the largest issues facing police officers in our area is having to respond to grocery stores to stop fights. Are you kidding me? We can’t find toilet paper because those that can find it are buying it all up. We are seeing the “every man for himself” type of mentality which is more frightening than the virus itself.
If you are not a Christian, then I can understand your panic. I can understand your fear of dying. But there is something you can do about that. You can turn to God. You can accept Christ as your savior and trust in Him. Or, if you prefer you can panic.
If you are a Christian, then you need to realize one thing. The absolute worst thing that can happen is that you can die. The absolute best thing that could happen is you could die.For us, it’s win-win no matter what comes our way. That’s pretty cool, right? As Christians, when we die a physical death we then go to heaven to live forever with our God and Savior. What a fairy tale ending, right? We literally all live happily ever after.
I am not downplaying this virus at all. I realize that it is serious, but I am encouraging you to pray and study your Bible. Some of you have been given time off work, children are doing their schooling at home. What better time to institute a morning devotional time with your family. It doesn’t have to be an hour. It can be five minutes. Just take a little time where you focus on God with Bible reading and prayer before you begin your day. Pray for God’s hedge of protection around you. Pray for God to be with you and your family as you go through your day. You’ll be amazed at what this will do for your family.
As Christians, it is important that we remain steadfast and love others, even those that may be unlovable right now. Show those around us what it looks like to have Jesus in your heart and to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit.
What Chicken Little thought was the sky falling was actually just an acorn that had hit her on the head. As we go through life we will have acorns hit us on the head, please don’t get it confused with the sky falling. But, know that even if the sky falls, God’s got this!
Have a great day!
