When God Has Your Heart

Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.  Deuteronomy 6:5-9 HCSB

As you read this, you can’t help but get that this is a very important instruction, right? God is very sincere in wanting your whole heart. He wants your whole being in a committed relationship with Him. He doesn’t want to only be a 911 call when things get scary. He doesn’t want to be someone you spend time with when you have nothing “more pressing” to do. He doesn’t want to be someone you use as a last resort. He wants total commitment heart and soul. Now let’s face it, as human beings and mere mortals we just naturally want to know what’s in it for us. Well, I’m glad you asked.

When God has our hearts, He provides protection for us and shelters us (Psalm 91). He has good plans for us and wants the best for us (Jeremiah 29:11). He works all things out for our good (Romans 8:28). He parts the sea so that we can walk on dry land (Exodus 14:15-31). He shuts the mouths of lions (Daniel 6:10-24). He walks with you through the fire (Daniel 3). He raises you from death to life everlasting (John 11). He fights your battles (2 Chronicles 20). He provides all that you need (Matthew 6:33) so that you don’t have to worry.

When God has your whole heart and your soul, He will take good care of you. But for some reason, if you are like me or I should say like I used to be, you may be hesitant to give it to Him. Maybe like me, you want to handle things on your own. Or maybe like me, you are afraid of letting go of some of the sin in y our life. Whatever your reason, I can assure you that it is not worth it. The best decision I ever made in my life was to love the Lord my God with all my heart, all my soul, and all my strength. It doesn’t mean that I don’t still slip up at times, but it means that I can get back into a right relationship with Him quickly and we can work things out. It means that He is there for me 24/7. It means that I trust in Him to save me in times of distress. It means that I know that He will never leave me nor forsake me. It means that I don’t have to fear.

If you are holding on for dear life and refusing to let go and let God handle things, my friend, you have no idea what you are doing. You are making the biggest mistake of your life. God knows what our future holds, He wants the best for us but He will not force His goodness on us. We must willing accept it. We must wholeheartedly turn to Him. We must love Him with all we’ve got. Are you prepared to do that today? If you are then get ready for the peace and joy that can only be found in a good, solid relationship with your Lord and Savior. Get ready to turn those battles you have been fighting over to Him. Get ready to suit up and stand firm and watch while He delivers you.

But if you still refuse to let go, then that’s on you. If you are sick and tired then prepare to stay sick and tired. It is said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If you choose to stay on the treadmill of despair then I will pray for you, but as for me I know that God’s got this. I have seen His deliverance at times when I thought all hope was lost. I have walked through the sea of despair on dry ground. I have walked through the fire without even having the smell of smoke on me. I will love the Lord my God with all my heart, all my soul, and all my strength because I know what it has done for me. He can do the same for you, if you will only let Him.

Have a great day!
