What is the source of wars and fights among you? Don’t they come from the cravings that are at war within you? You desire and do not have. Your murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war because you do not ask. You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires. James 4:1-3 HCSB
Our scripture passage tells us that we don’t get along because of fleshly desires that are directly opposite the will of God. This is why when we pray, we often pray with the wrong motives and the answer to our prayers is no. You see, when we are aligned with God and we are putting Him first in our lives then we want His will to be done. Our prayers align with God’s will. John 15:7 tells us that if we remain in Christ and He remains in us that we can ask anything we desire and it will be granted to us. We are to be imitators of Christ (Ephesians 5:1).
What we are seeing in our country is horrible. I want you to understand something before I go further. I am not making a political statement here. I am not coming at this situation from a political view point. I am coming at it from a Christian view point and I am appalled. What we are seeing in our country today is appalling. People in charge of our country are fighting like kindergarteners on a playground.
Now before all you Trump supporters get up in arms, let me make one thing crystal clear. I am not supporting Republicans or Democrats. I am crying out to Christians to wake up and smell the coffee here. From the tiniest town’s political offices to the White House, we are seeing widespread corruption. We are seeing people who claim to be grown ups throwing temper tantrums. People are up in arms because Trump didn’t shake Pelosi’s hand while others are up in arms because Pelosi tore up Trump’s speech. How can you be upset with one and not the other? I think they all need to be taken out behind the woodshed if you know what I mean. I am embarrassed that this is the way that the so-called leaders of this once great nation behave.
I have seen local prayer breakfasts in our area that are an outright mockery of God and the Bible. I have seen people that are using them for political gain. They use them to try to draw in Christians that don’t know how some of these people really behave. The same is obviously being done at a national level. From what I have read, the prayer breakfast is an annual event that has been done since 1953 and is a time when both parties are supposed to forget their differences and come together to honor God.
We have a president who admits that he has never read the Bible and doesn’t know the difference between the Old Testament and New Testament? We have a speaker of the house who says she’s praying for our president, but then she too acts like a 5 year old. What is going on here? As always, the answer is found in the Bible. Timothy 3:2 tells us that in the end times, people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self control, brutal, without love for what is good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to the form of godliness but denying it’s power. Look at our politicians from the local level to the national level. I think all of these words describe them. We are told to avoid these people. It’s kind of hard to do when they are running things.
These people are in power because we have put them there. If you talk to a large majority of voters they will tell you that they voted for the lesser of two evils. My friend, they are all evil if you look at their track record. They are all about me, me, me. We are told to put God first, others second and ourselves last. I think they have it all backwards.
They can’t get along because of their fleshly craving for power. They all want to be in power. They all despise each other and they all war against each other. It’s gotten so bad here, I was thinking about where I could move but if you look at the United Kingdom, the royals at war with each other as well. There is no doubt we are in the end times, my friend.
You may be thinking, well what can I do? Well, you can be an imitator of Christ. You can love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44) as Mr. Brooks admonished all of us to do at the National Prayer Breakfast. You can pray for our leaders (Psalm 2:10-11, Proverbs 11:14). We are told in 1 Timothy 2:1-4 that we should pray for those in positions of authority so that WE can lead tranquil and quite lives in all godliness and dignity. We are told that this is good and it pleases God our Savior who wants everyone to be saved.
I strongly encourage you to listen to what those in authority are saying. It’s scary and again I am not coming out on the Republican or the Democratic side, I think they all need to go. I think that if they can’t be imitators of Christ, then we need to vote them out and find some good, God-fearing men to get our country back on track.
We are instructed in 2 Chronicles 7:14 to humble ourselves, pray and seek God’s face and turn from our evil ways so that God will hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land. I beg of you to turn to God today. Seek His wisdom and His discernment when it comes to dealing with those in authority and don’t forget to pray for them and for our nation.
Have a great weekend!
