O God, You are my God; I shall seek you earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory. Because Your loving kindness is better than life, My lips will praise You. So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips. Psalm 63:1-5 NASB
We often tend to dramatize our personal situation by saying things like, “I’m dying of thirst” or “I’m starving to death”. Now we have all probably been in that situation where we felt as though we were dying of thirst. And I am willing to bet that at some point you might have said, at least on one occasion, that you were starving to death. Now, I have a young lady in my church that is as intelligent as she is beautiful and she has pointed out that this is not an accurate statement for most of us. After all, few of us who make that claim are in any real danger of starving to death or dying of thirst, right?
But what is alarming is that in our country a large number of people have a thirst that cannot be quenched with water. They are in need of the living water that only God can provide. Their souls need to be fed with only the kind of food that God can provide for them. They need to be fed God’s word. They need to drink at the fountain of life. According to a 2019 study found in Wikipedia only 65% of Americans claim to be Christians. But, only 45% of those who claim to be Christians are members of a church. And most churches would tell you that the FBI couldn’t find many of their members. Churches have roles with members on there that haven’t been seen in years.
Evil runs rampant in the world today and sadly people know they need something, but they try to fill the void with all kinds of things that only leave them thirsting for more. They can’t be satisfied and they can’t understand why. My friend, if your soul is satisfied, it’s all good. But if your soul is thirsting for a devoted relationships with your Lord and Savior, then you need to satisfy that thirst. You need to earnestly seek Him like our scripture says. Get out of that dry and weary land, turn to Him and drink His living water.
More and more I am hearing about people dying at young ages. Just the other day a friend told me about a young woman that died at the age of 33, we all heard about Kobe Bryant (age 41) and his 13 year old daughter dying in a helicopter crash along with two coaches, three teammates, and the pilot. This goes to show that none of us know when we will face the throne of judgment. But, hopefully, we know the current condition of our soul. So, I ask you today is your soul thirsty? Is there some type of void in your life? Maybe you are not even sure what it is but you know that something is missing. Or is your soul satisfied? Can you truly say that it is well with your soul?
My friend if your soul is thirsty, you can literally die of that kind of thirst. You can perish and spend eternity in a sinner’s hell if you don’t turn to God and allow Him to quench that thirst. Earnestly seek Him today. Turn to Him and allow Him to feed your soul and give you drink that will quench your thirsty soul. That longing you have in your heart is for Him. Isn’t it time that you allow HIm to satisfy it.
Let Him fill your thirsty soul today. My soul was once thirsty, but now it is satisfied. I can assure you that a satisfied soul is much better than a thirsty soul.
Have a great day!
