How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know who said, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY.” And again, “THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.” It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Hebrews 10:29-31 NASB
I don’t know about you, but I am not wealthy enough to purchase something or do something without considering the cost. I also have to shop prices. If I can buy something at a discount store and get it much cheaper than I can in a retail store, I am going to save money if at all possible. I have to consider whether or not I can afford items before purchasing them. For example, I would love to have an inground pool, but I can’t afford the $40,000.00 that it would cost.
But no matter how rich you are, you must consider the cost and the price of sin in your life. Can you afford to trample the Son of God underfoot? I mean can you really afford to just ignore Him? Can you afford to disregard the blood that was shed in order to cleanse you of your sins? Can you afford to insult the Holy Spirit? Ephesians 4:30 tells us that we must not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom we were sealed for the day of redemption.
Now many people today will refuse to buy things like a new car or a nicer house because they will insist that they can’t afford it. However, these same people will have no problem taking God’s name in vain, allowing idols to keep them from the Lord’s house and from spending time daily with God. These people will grieve the Holy Spirit by holding on to anger, wrath and bitterness. They will plot evil against those that have offended them rather than turning it over to God. They will disobey God’s commands. They will do all these things without ever once stopping to consider the cost.
My friend, if you intend to sin whether it be a sin of commission or of omission, then you better stop and consider the cost before you bail off into it. When we built our house, my sister drew the plans and gathered costs of materials and set up a budget. We knew what it would cost from start to finish. We didn’t just start building and then hope we could afford it.
When you bail off into sin, you had better calculate the cost. Can you afford it? Many people find themselves suffering with anxiety over their finances because they overspend and don’t know how they will manage to pay back. There’s an old saying that sin will take your farther than you wanted to go, keep you longer than you wanted to stay, and cost you more than you wanted to pay. Romans 6:23 clearly states that the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I have recently been shopping for luggage and I saw a set at a retail store just the other day for 100.00 which is a good price for a four piece set of luggage. But, at a discount store I saw a larger, sturdier set with four pieces for only 50.00. That’s a no brainer right? We must be very careful to weigh the cost of sin in our lives. Once you get into God’s word and start to communicate with Him daily through prayer and start Bible study through a good Bible teaching church, you will see that sin is just not worth it.
If you have fallen into the bondage of sin, there is hope. Know that God is a God of restoration. Know that He can fix this if you will give it all over to Him. Jesus Christ has paid the price for our sin with His blood. Trust in Him today. I promise you that no matter how wealthy you may be, you can’t afford the high price of sin. It’s death, my friend, and you simply can’t afford that. Turn to God today. Give it all over to Him. Allow Him to cancel your debt.
Have a great day!
