Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 HCSB
As a child, I enjoyed staying with my grandparents. Both my paternal and maternal grandparents were loving and kind. I remember as a young child when I would fall down and bang up my elbow or knee, my grandmother would clean the scrape and say, “let me kiss it and make it all better”. Now I’m sure that there is no scientific proof that a grandmother’s kiss to a “bo-bo”, as we used to call them, will heal it faster, but it did something psychologically that made it feel better. I think the love that was felt made me forget about the hurt even if just for a minute or two. The other thing that my grandmothers would do when I was injured or feeling blue was offer sweets like cookies or candy. Come to think of it maybe this is why I reach for sweets when I am feeling stressed, but that’s another blog for another day.
As adults we may see our loved ones suffering and just want to make it better. Perhaps they are in a stressful job or they are having problems with a relationship. Maybe they are struggling financially. Maybe they are dealing with some type of illness or experiencing a great deal of stress in their lives. Oh, if only we could give them a kiss and a hug and make it all better or even a cookie. But, in the grown up world it doesn’t work that way. There is, however, something we can give them that will make it all better, Jesus. Jesus is the answer to all that is wrong in our lives. Let me say that again, Jesus is the answer to all that is wrong in our lives.
My grandparents passed away while I was in college. I still remember times past that, however, when my parents did what they could to make it all better when I was an adult and was suffering with consequences from my mistakes. My dad passed away six years ago and my mom now has dementia. I can no longer go to them to make it all better. The roles have reversed and I am now the caretaker for my mom trying to make it all better for her. But I have Jesus. He gets me through the tough times. I know that I can do all things through Him because He strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). I know that when I get weak and weary that I can wait upon Him and he will give me strength and endurance (Isaiah 40:31). If I trust in Him, He will make it all better. My hope abounds in Him.
If you are stuck in circumstances that seem hopeless, know that hope is found in Him. If you are feeling weary and weak know that He will uphold you with his righteous hand (Isaiah 41:30). He never promises us that we won’t suffer, but He does promise that after we suffer for a little while that He will restore us (1 Peter 5:10). He promises us that He will work even the bad things in our life out for our good (Romans 8:28).
Now you may be reading this and say what’s the catch? Well, there is a catch and I’m glad you asked. You have to trust in Him with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. You must be willing to give your cares to Him and trust Him (1 Peter 5:7). And you’ve got to have faith (Matthew 17:20-24).
I don’t know what your circumstances are today, I just know that whatever they are, God wants to hold you and make it all better. He is there for you. Accept Jesus as your savior, repent and allow His blood to cleanse you of your sins. Ask God’s Holy Spirit to come and dwell on the inside of you.
I can remember being in my twenties and facing a devastating situation. It felt as though my world had been rocked to the core. I walked in the living room at my parents house where my dad was sitting in his recliner and just started crying. He reached out his arms, I sat in his lap and he held me and I cried. He assured me that it would be okay. He assured me that he would do whatever he could to make it better. My dad went ahead to our heavenly father six years ago, but I can still run to my father’s arms. My heavenly father is there to hold me and make it all better.
He’s standing there with arms outstretched. Fall into those arms today. His Holy Spirit wants to give you joy and peace, but you must believe. You must trust in Him.
Have a great day!
