The Strongest of Them All

When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed. But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder. He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.  Luke 11:21-23 HCSB

I have never been afraid to stay alone in my home. I may not be so strong, but I am fully armed. But, I will admit that my husband is much stronger than I am and a much better shot. So, when he’s home, I trust him to protect and guard the place. In our scripture passage today we start out with a strong man guarding his own home. But then we go to someone stronger overtaking the strong man, stripping him of his armor and distributing his plunder. Now that doesn’t sound so good, does it?

In our scripture passage the strong man is Satan and the “someone stronger” is God. In fact, no one is stronger than God. So, the question today is who is guarding your house? Is it the strong man or the strongest man? You see there can be no in between. It is Satan or it is God? We are either with God or we are against God.

Today, I encourage you to take a good look at your house or your life as it is meant in our passage. How safe is it? Is it being guarded by Satan and there’s no chance of any of us bible thumping Christians shaking your foundation? Have you made your mind up that God is not for you? If this is your current position then I only ask you to consider one thing, God is stronger. God always wins. The ending is not going to be good for you and you kid yourself if you think otherwise.

Do you feel safe in your home or your current lifestyle? Years ago, I was living a life that was not pleasing to God. I had the audacity to think it was okay. I rationalized my sinful behavior. I had good excuses for not going to church, not praying, not reading my bible. I tried to fit God in here and there. I had nestled myself safely into a place where Satan wanted me to be. But, praise God, He is so much stronger. Praise God, He was able to reach in and take my hand and pull me up out of that pit.

Now I can tell you that I am safe and secure. I have chosen to reside in the shelter of the Most High and I am safely abiding in the shadow of the Almighty God (Psalm 91:1).

I don’t know where you are today, but I know that you too can choose to reside in the shelter of the Most High. You too can choose to be with God and not against Him. The bottom line is this, even if you choose not to choose you are choosing. Serving God is a choice and yes it takes a little work. We have to choose to reside in His shelter. We have to choose to reside with Him. It is a choice that we make daily.

I hope that you have made your choice. I hope that you have decided to be with God. When we are with God, we are truly safe. When we are with the devil, we are given this false sense of security. I beg of you today to take time to talk with God and be sure you know the difference. I was fooled for many years. Trust in Him. He will not only keep you safe, but He will give you wisdom and discernment to help keep you in your safe place. He is the strongest, He always wins, why would you not be with Him?

Have a great day!
